Martha?

Lately I have been really enamored of the name Martha. It's one of the "old fashioned" names.

According to behind the name, its Hebrew for "lady" or "mistress of the house." It was most popular in the 1890s. Nicknames include "Mattie" and "Maddy."

WDYT?

I don't think Marta would go well in the states. People would assume that you misspelled Martha. Although it is a nice slavic name and means that same thing as Martha.

I disagree.
Marta is a name used in many languages: Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Romanian, Polish, Bulgarian, Serbian, Danish, Hungarian, German, Hebrew etc (yes some of those are Slavic).
I don't think people would mispronounce it as Martha as there's no 'th' in it.

I don't like the ARrrgh sound for a girl. It reminds me of a pirate and doesn't strike me as that feminine.

A little too Martha Washington for me. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't pick it as a name for my child.

Never ever liked it, sorry :/

I do love though, Deep Forest's song "Marta's song".

I have a couple of friends named Martha, but I still think of it as one of the old fashioned names. It's quite sweet, but something stops me liking it that much.
I do like nicknames Mattie & Maddy though.

I've heard that Martha is really popular in the UK right now. I like it, but it's not my favourite. I prefer Marta or Margaret.

Makes me think of the Beatles song "Martha, My Dear," which Paul McCartney wrote about his pet sheepdog.

I don't think it's very pretty. I have a friend named Martha and she hates it, and goes by Martie which I think is silly on a girl, but oh well.

I think the name Martie is actually quite nice on a girl.
