For some reason, for me, it better have a good meaning in order for me to add it in my Teddy Bear Journal *blushes and grins*. I don't really just put down any nice sounding name, like Cecilia. Nice name but I don't like the meaning (blind). It has to have a strong meaning like "Noble" (Adelaide/Adelaida) "Ruler (Erik)

Just wondering, but are any people in this community very picky about name meanings as well?

No, I really don't care. A lot of those meanings in name books are flat-out wrong and often aren't literal meanings anyway. Some of them may have acquired negative meanings with interesting stories. (Ex. Claude and Claudia allegedly mean "lame" because of a king named Claude who got a leg injury and developed a limp.)

The only meanings I really care about are the negative ones that are obvious. Those are the only ones I can think of off hand where the meaning affects my opinion of the name.

Tristan/Trista etc -- all come from the word "sad." If you speak any of the Romance languages (french, italian, spanish) this is obvious.

Mallory -- unlucky. Actually just the prefix of "mal" is enough to turn me off. Malformed, malignant and such words and tell you that something is "bad."

I think positive associations, a nice sound, ease of pronunciation/spelling, familiar-but-not-common are all much more important qualities in choosing a name.
