Straightforward question.....

Laura or Sarah ?

Which do you prefer, and why?

[identity profile] lipsty.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
I would previously have said Laura, as I associated the name Sarah with a dowdy, greasy woman I knew but I have since met loads of lovely, vibrant Sarahs and decided that it's actually a great name! Laura is pretty, too. Laura is very feminine, while I think Sarah is a lot stronger.

I like Sarah better, I don't like how Laura forces you to roll your tongue, sounding like a mouthful of rrrr

me is weird XD

[identity profile] the-archangel.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There are so many songs about Sarah. xD Personally, I prefer Laura, but I like to spell it without the U. Just Lara. Course, then some people pronounce it with two short As instead and that makes it sound like Sarah with an L.

[identity profile] the-archangel.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
No, sounds to me like you pronounced them exactly how I do. Even though it comes out "air" in Sarah, that is still a short A.

[identity profile] dosequisgirl.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in the US and prnounce them the same as you do.
Lara to me sounds completely different than Laura.

I think I prefer Sarah. I like Laurel though.

to me Lara = Lah-rah and Laura= Loh-rah

[identity profile] cinnamon-sakaki.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Both are pretty names, but I think I'd go for Laura. I'd also consider the surname, as things like alliterative names are generally something to avoid.

[identity profile] depeche810.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Laura, just because I know so many Sarah's. They're both nice names though, but I just hear Sarah all the time.

[identity profile] sarahmarie.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah, because it's my name. Also, because I prefer Laruen over Laura.

[identity profile] sandtree.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah is very common, and she'd always have other Sarahs in her class. My sister's name is Sarah, though, and it's a really nice name. Laura is nice too, probably slightly less common, but I think I like Sarah a bit better.

[identity profile] frenchnails.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely Sarah! I used to know a really bitchy mean Laura and she ruined the name for me >_>.

[identity profile] lu-11.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally prefer Laura as i think it sounds softer and is prettier. I agree with the lady who said its more feminie too. I know alot of sarahs and think the name is becoming increasingly common.

[identity profile] neukpuppy.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
THERE ARE SOOO MANY SARAHS. Seriously, that and Emily have been sooo overdone. I think I have like 13 Sarah facebook friends or something. Laura is much less common and so I would pick that one.

[identity profile] xxriotgurlxx.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They're both pretty common, but I love the name Sarah, probably because it's my best friend's name!

[identity profile] miss-tee.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah because I just never liked Laura, it's so plain and common.

[identity profile] so-there.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah. just sounds nicer to me.

[identity profile] txjagfan.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I'm kinda biased....Sarah. With the H just like in the Bible.

[identity profile] swiftheartlu.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah.
It's well balanced and well...i love it.

Laura is more dreary and not fun to say repetively.
Yeah, I tried and sounded like a fool.

[identity profile] deadpoetwoffie.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
My name is Sarah. I was names after my great-great grandmother and the wife of Abraham in the Bible. I love my name, but in junior high there were 7 of us total in my grade. And I didn't even go to a big school. And yet I would still pick Sarah because I don't here of a lot of children today being named that. Yes, there was a surge of it in the late 80s, early 90s babies, but it's still a good name. ^_^

[identity profile] candyshowers.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Sarah.
I believe it means Princess, which is cute! :)

[identity profile] seksimaggie.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I love them both, but I prefer Laura; it's a LITTLE less common and a LITTLE prettier :)

[identity profile] starrkissed.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
if i HAD to pick, i'd go for sarah. honestly though, i don't like either name.

[identity profile] hotchpot.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Laura.

[identity profile] sweet3mich.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer Laura. It's classic, elegant, strong. All Laura's I've ever known have been intelligent, sophisticated women. Definitely people you want to look up to.

:)

[identity profile] mermeydele.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
i love this question just because my gf's name is sarah and my brother's gf's (fiance's) name is laura. i prefer sarah overall - and lauren to laura (i am biased there too, cause lauren's my middle name).

[identity profile] kidlettes.livejournal.com 2007-05-04 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah spelled just like that...

why it's my name...

[identity profile] saretonin.livejournal.com 2007-05-06 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
my name is Sara. i like it better without the h, because i find the h unnecessary. i also like how all the letters after 's' are little and short, and not imprisoned by a big letter. which is why I like Laura better than Sarah

[identity profile] alluminor.livejournal.com 2007-05-06 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them both a lot, but Sarah more, I think. It's spunkier.
