[identity profile] kreptis.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My unhealthy obsession with names finally has a home! Yay!

A lot of my names are actually drawn from obscure Final Fantasy or Pokemon references (because let's face it, they have the best names)

So to start, I've listed the names I have picked out if I ever have children/pets/friends that need their children named:

Girls:
Lorelei
Sabrina
Alma
Celeste
Alanis
Clair
Atlanta
Iva
Erika
Jasmine

Boys:
Beowulf
Zeno
Zaki
Alexei (but my stupid uncle named his son Alexander *hatehatehate*)
Seth (but he's one of the main characters in a book I'm writing.)
Lance (no not after that one guy)
Gregory
Keenan

Love all the girls' names, as well as Alexei, Seth, and Lance from the boys'. Hehe, I agree on the Pokemon names; that's where I got Lorelei from for my girls' list too (and is it where you got Lance? I also see Sabrina and Erika). :P

You have to be careful in naming boys unusual names. They have a higher rate of metal health issues if you do.

beowulf?? maybe its just me but i HATED HATED HATED the book/poem/whatever the hell it was. grendel was decent though... very angsty and nihilistic.

maybe for a pet, since you did say pets/children. i have pets' (specifically dogs b/c im not a huge cats person) names picked out too =P. I'm an american history major and decided pets will be getting the names of my favorite presidents. however, i dont think beowulf would be suitable for a human child...

I work at a daycare and know a little boy named Beowulf, and his brothers are Amadeus and Magnum. I think they are prety mentally stable, I haven't noticed any taunting or anything towards them yet... But I know that when other little kids come up and want to play with them and ask their names, the other kids can never say or remember the name. And these same groups of kids come EVERYDAY and the kids ask them their names EVERYDAY, but yet when, say, Cade (who only comes on Thursdays, and isn't really as great of a playfriend as Beuwolf) walks through the door, all of the kids are like "Cade is here!!" I don't know if that makes a difference in a kids' psyche that other kids' call them by name or not... but I guess that is just something to consider. For my part, I defo get a kick out of their names.

OMFG

Interestingly enough, I was just looking at the name Keenan for something myself, and then I come here and yours is the first post I see since then! Ironic.

I like that you have Atlanta on your list. It's pretty and I hadn't thought of it as a name for a child before! I like it far better than, say, Paris. Ahem.

That seems nice, the reflection intention, I mean.

I remember an Atalanta, a huntress/athlete from Greek myth. Is that the same individual? I loved her myths.

Hmmm...I think there was a Goddess that hunts and her name was Artemis if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, Artemis was - among other things - a goddess of the hunt. Atalanta was something else altogether though. Myths I remember about her were that she was a mere mortal who was lucky in being favored by a god(dess) or two.

haha, I have a HUGE baby names book I got at a thrift shop for 25 cents because of course the characters in my novels needed cool names as well as my future kids... so you're not alone in unhealthy obsessing.

Ooooh, Iva. I might steal that for a character. Omg, I too have been attracted to Beowulf. And Alexei is the nickname of my character Alessandro (just my way of incorporating two names I love).

There are so many variants on the name Alexander (according to my baby book). My favourite is Aleksander.

I love, love, love the name Lorelei, but it's spell it/pronounce it Lorelai. My parents make fun of me b/c I'm also a giant-ass Gilmore Girls fan...but I loved the name long before I ever saw the show.
