A friend of mine suggested combining parts of the names of the parents or of people the parents admire (grandparents, aunts, friends, etc.) to form a new name for a child.

Ex...

Elizabeth and Jonathan

Most obvious blending would give you Ethan. E from Elizabeth and -than from Jonathan.
But you could also get JoBeth, Izana, Litha, Jobe, Zana, Onli, etc.

What do you think of this? I'm not sure of my opinion. It could help with finding unique and interesting names.

PS If I combined the names of myself and my significant other the best name I could get from it would be Alina. LOL

There is a soap opera star in the UK called Malandra. Her dad is called Malcolm and her mum is called Sandra... *facepalm*

My aunt and her husband did this for their daughter - Barry and Melanie became Ryani.

I think it's cute. I hate the idea of naming children after a family member, but if it's a "unique" combination of names it works.

i think it's a bit narcissistic to be honest. i hate the whole 'jr.' thing too! then again my name (zahra) might be hard to work with.

My friend Leah, husband Caleb, named their daugther Kaylee, it was close enough the same thing.

In your example, I hate the Izana, I think it sucks, but if it's a decent name it wouldn't be that bad. But the parents would determine the decent name, not me.

My middle name actually came about that way.

My mother's name is Karen. My grandmother's Elizabeth. My aunt's are Laurie and Linda.

Thus K-E-L-L

And my mom just liked Kellin better than Kelly.

my parents names are christopher and diane, so i could have been Ciane, Diopher, Risane? Hmmm it doesn't really work. If you've got names where it works well then go for it but don't force it

Hmm.... I'm Jessica, and my husband is Matt (or Matthew is his "official" name).

Messica? (LOLZ) Jatt? (haha that sounds way too much like what someone might do in their pants.... LOL!)
Or maybe... Mica? I dunno.

I knew a little boy whose parents had done that. They didn't have a name picked out even up until he was born, and I think the story was that someone at the hospital [a nurse, or MD or something] asked what their names were, which were David and Karen. So the person said, "What about Daven?" and that's what they named him. It's pronounced DAH-vin, not like Devin.

if my bf and i had kids they'd be something like:
jaron
jeron
jeson
arica
aroca

i have actually considered Jaron as a name if we ever do have kids together because it continues the pattern: my bf (aaron) mothers name is Sharron! apparantly she just liked the me...

This reminds me of one of my father's favourite jokes...

"My father's name is Ben and my mother's name is Anna. So they named me Banana!" XD

The mother and step-father of a friend of mine did that with their eldest child. The dad's name is Patrick and the mother's is Brenda, so they came up with Brenrick. I guess it's all right, though I prefered the other choice: Panda. =^_^=

But with my husband and I... well, we just couldn't do that. I mean, what are you going to come up with if your names are Nicholas and Connemara?

I knew a couple and the dad's name was Lee and the mom's name was Diann.

Their daughter? Liann.
