Fun names

I have a lot of friends right now who are having babies around now (me included!) and there have been a lot of fun names.

My little girl is Morrigan Kathleen, had she been a boy she would have been Garreth Cei

A friend's little girl is Elenore Zeta

And a little boy due in a few weeks is Killian (like the beer!)

I think it's great that people are looking for fun and unique names for their kids.

Hmmm... 'fun' for who though? This might be straying into the Johnny Cash school of moral fibre through naming. :0)

Fun for the kids of course. I was always proud to have a beautiful and unique name with a story behind it. All of those listed are family names passed down to a new generation, without being boring, or without the kids having to worry about being one of six David's in a classroom (something my poor boyfriend had to deal with growing up). Morrigan and Killian are also cultural names, as all of our families are Scotch-Irish.

As a terribly common 'Sarah' I can't say that I've ever wanted my name to be the most exotic thing about me.

Of course my reply wasn't meant as a poke at you or anyone with a more common name, and I'm sorry you took it that way. It was simply what we took into mind when naming our daughter, and it's a theme I've noticed repeated in many children being born in our area recently. There's nothing wrong with children enjoying a unique name that their parents gave them, and nothing of course that dictates that it should be the "most exotic" thing about that person.

No need to try and be derogatory, as I'm sure you don't know me, please don't call me "dear"

Morrigan was a Welsh Goddess, and also the name for Welsh women who joined their men in battle. This was a pregnancy that was never supposed to happen, and that I was warned I would probably never carry to term (I showed the doctors :P) so we picked a strong name, and she came out perfectly healthy and strong (though a month early).

I think it's kind of awful, actually. All of these kids are going to grow up constantly having to correct spellings and pronounciations, and the "unique" names are so trendy now that there's absolutely nothing unique about them.

I like unique names, too. My name is Jennifer and I hated how many Jennifers there were in my classes. Even my best friends name was Jennifer.
