Found this community because of ljspotlight, as you can figure I'm completely obsessed with names, and especially their meanings.

I'm writing a novel at the moment, a horror/vampire/fantasy type that runs along the lines of BtVS or Anita Blake.
Just thought you might like to know the names of my main characters, because I decided to go the Joss Whedon route and give them slightly unusual names. :)

Main Characters are

Briar Emma Sterling
(her first name means 'heather' in French, but it actually came to me one day when i was walking by a blackberry plant and it scratched my arm. I just thought it would be cool to have a girl named after a plant with pretty flowers and fruit, but with good defenses, like thorns. It's a lot to do with her development as a character too)
Chase Quinn His name means 'Hunter/Hunt', I just thought it was pretty, and fits since he's a vampire hunter. Lol.

Chase's brother's name is Raid. Don't know exactly why, because is 'real' name is Samuel. I think it might have something to Tomb Raider, or it could just be a random word :/

Then there's my fave names, my vampires. Nicolai, (goes by Nico tho) he's my loveable bad guy.
Tadhg (Irish for Timothy, pronounced, think Tyg, like tiger without the grr)
Eliza (variant of my fave name Elizabeth)
Child ( Henry Jean Child I just like the way it goes against the whole innocent child thing, him being a vampire and all)
Scourge (yeah, I pretty much love the word. It's got to do with a whole backstory where he was a gladiator or something, it never actually make it into the novel)

But my favourite name is actually of a character that is secondary, but i gave her the name because she's the most important plot device I have. She dies, and I felt guilty, so I gave her a nice name. Hehe
She goes by Esjay, but her full name is Saberjace. It means 'sword of the moon' and I just thought the words flowed nicely together, and the book's main theme, besides vampires, has a lot to do with Moon mythology.

Sorry for the long rambling post, I'd love some feedback on the names as I'm in the middle of rewriting it now, and might change names (except Chase's, and Esjays, they're my faves)
So, any comments/critiques?

Well, they used to call the Vikings the 'Raiders' so maybe he could like to raid and pillage and generally eat people?

I love Saberjace, it flows beautifully! And the rest of them of course, especially Scourge, that's a great name for a vampire!

Have you thought of a title yet?
