Hi! It's been really interesting and inspiring to reading through all these posts and see what you guys like/dislike etc.

My name is Lorna Rachel, not really sure what I think of it. It's not really common which is nice because I never get confused with other people, but you do get called Laura quite a lot which is annoying.

I'm not planning on having kids any time soon/ever but there are a few names that have stuck with me.



Boys:
- Jack - I know it's the most popular name ever seemingly (at least in the UK) but it's still a strong boys name, timeless and classic.

- Luke - ever since I was 8 and saw Star Wars I wanted to call my son Luke after Luke Skywalker! How embarrassing. Luckily it's a solid enough name that no one will ever know... apart from all you people

- Nathanael/Nathan - a new addition to the list, I've met a few Nathanel's since I've been at uni and just really like it, plus I'm a big fan of biblical names.

Girls: I struggle with girls names a lot, I like quite masculine/ interchangable girls names;
Carmen - loved this name for years now.
Alex - I remember telling my mum I'd call my daughter Alex when I was about 5, but I like it for a boy too.
Addison - again for a boy or a girl. I think it's quite distingushed for a boys name, but Addie shortened for a boy? hmm.

Other than that I'm stuck on girls names (I realise that all my girls names are also boys names,(I also used to love the name Roberta, see my problem?) I don't like really common girls names but I still want something really solid. Any suggestions? I also really love biblical names. My friend's daughter is called Kezia (Job's daughter, meaning beloved daughter I think) which is lovely, but probably too girly for me.

If I could name my son anything, and not be laughed at or judged or have people make fun of him or him hate me for life I'd call him d'Artangnon. Just because it's such a cool name to say, and you'd ALWAYS have to say it in a french accent... but don't worry, I wouldn't ever do that to a child.

Since you're a StarWars fan, I think you'll get a kick out of this.

When I was 15 I had to do work experience, and I'm lazy so I did it at the kindergarden that's at my high school (big school). There was a child there who was called Anakin. Yes, after Anakin Skywalker.

Hah, that's brilliant, it's actually a pretty cool name, but seriously, everyone would know that your parents were massive Star Wars fans. Too funny. And he'd constantly get loads of jokes about turning to the dark side... poor kid.

I like the idea of being inspired from a film or a book or something but it has to be obscure enough that people don't know!

Me and my partner are ttc, so names are a lot of fun for us. We considered calling out son Matt, after Matt Belamy from Muse (the band), but decided Matt was too boring. Maybe we'll cal our son Belamy :P

All the kids in Anakins family had interesting names. His sister was Anastasia and his Mum would always tell us it wasn't "Ann-a-stay-za" it was "ana-staaaaaaaaaaa-ci-ah". I'm smiling just thinking about that family. They were such interesting people.

Yeh I thought it was probably more commong for a girl, which is good to know. Cameron is quite a nice name too actually. But again unisex. Why can't I just like a nice girly name?

Anakin and Anastasia, sounds cute together. Names are such a delicate thing, unusual is good but you want a 'oooo thats an unusual name' reaction, not a 'you called him what?!' reaction.

I'd like to find a name that people have fun saying. My partner is really set on Joaquin for a boy, I'd always over pronounce it because I think it's a fun word to say.

I keep telling my husband (who is also a huge star wars fan) if we have boy/girl twins, they are SO being named Luke and Leia. He thinks I'm kidding.

I mean, you can't just pass an opportunity like that up!

Oh I love muse as well. I've seen them 3 times now and can't wait for them to come back!! Have you seen them before? They put on an absolutely AMAZING show! The second time I saw them they had weather balloons filled with feathers thrown out to the crowd, so then when the balloons eventually popped feathers went everywhere and oh... it was great.

but to be honest there are a lot of names in "the lord of the rings" I dont find so bad on a child like eowyn or arwen
actuall I know a little boy with the name björn merriadoc w. and a girl with the name eown (dont know her middle name) ... met her at a lord of the rings convention and the mother always screamed thru the whole room EEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOWYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYNNN *lol*
I dont think I´d like to call my son FROOOOOD-OOOOOOOO all over the playground ^^

and I saw a boy in a newspaper with the name gollum - it was his middle name and the first one was something like peter..but I really asked myself if the parents hate him ^^

anakin is a great name aswell..really...I could imagen a little boy with this name...and this name is on my list *lol* I´m not sure if I´d ever use it but I like it and I think it´s a name a boy could live with...
not like gollum or smeagol-...

haha Smeagol.... can you imagine it. I think before the films you could have got away with a lot more Lotr names, Arwen for example (I think Ewan McGregors niece is called Arwen actually) because even though it's well known from Lotr before the film it wasn't mainstream in quite the same way.

I'm not a huge fan of "girly" names on girls either. I guess I was such a tomboy I see my daughter(s) being the same. I picture girl names on a girly toddler, a tomboyish kid, and an elegant but strong teenager/adult before I consent to using them. I have one daughter now, her name is Germaine. my name is Adrienne, I go by A for short. but I'm not doing nicknames for my kids.

That's a good way to think of it, picturing the name throughout their life. I couldn't really imagine a strong woman called Rosabelle Delila Cutie for example. But just because it's not a girly name doesn't mean it's not a pretty name either. Like Grace is a strong name which would work from toddler to old lady, but it's still very pretty (quite overused tho :( ). I like your names :)
