In the past week i have heard the name 'Thayer' twice...

Is it a girls name? a boys name? someone with a slight lisp trying to say Slayer?

Do you like it? Hate it?

haha I've heard Thayer before, but I can't honestly remember if it was a boy or a girl :P I don't like it, also because it rhymes with Slayer :P

A little geography facts: there's Thayer County in Nebraska, and Thayer, Illinois.

I've found that it's supposed to be a boy's name, of teutonic origin, meaning Nation's army, but I have doubts. It sounds more like an english last name, to me.

Honestly? It is awful. And yes, everyone will think you have a lisp.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I've never heard of it before though. I have a friend named Trayer and I thought that was bad.

Trayer sounds like a) a character from bad 1960s sci fi or b) a 1980s video game.

I don't know if I like it or not but I have bad associations with it since the only place I've ever heard it was the book "she's come undone". Thayer wasn't a horrible character or anything, but the book itself was probably the worst I've ever read in my entire life.

Just did a quick baby name search on Thayer and its come up with

Of the Nations Army

http://www.thenewparentsguide.com/baby-names-t.htm

or

Army of the Nation
French in origin
Boys Name

http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Thayer.html

hope this helps.

p.s. I dont think its too bad but then I tend to like weird names!

K

I have it on both my girl and boy lists, but I don't know if I would actually use it.

This kid that works for my boyfriend is named "Thaer" (pronounced the same) and he goes by T because a lot of people call him "There". I think he said it's a middle eastern name. I never really cared to look it up, so I don't know.

It's an okay name, but I don't like the spelling "Thaer" at all.

I think it's a great name -- as a surname, but never as a first name. It was my favorite high school history teacher's surname.

I know of an older lady who's son is named Thayer. So yeah, its a boys name.

But I thought it sounded silly for a name.

It get's better though; Thayer named his kid Espen. As in ESPN with an extra E. Goodness gracious people!
