My soon-to-be last name is Hertz, and it is presenting more of a problem with any names for future children than I had ever thought. Immediately, it knocked out one of my favorite names, Landon. And at one point in time I had pitched Braden to my fiance, to which he replied, "Only if Hair can be the middle name." Har har, right?

A name I really have been trying to sell him on is Rayne. So my question to you is, would Rayne Hertz get my kid picked on? LoL Honestly, most people tell me they don't even think of the Hertz=hurts connection until it's pointed out [like, for instance, my mom always laughs because I'm about to graduate from nursing school, so I will be Nurse Hertz].

So what do you think? Am I asking for my kid to get teased?

I see your point, but I don't think Landon's that bad. Braden Hair definitely would be lol

Rayne for a boy or girl? It's not bad.

I don't think you are asking for your kids to get teased just because of the last name, but I would say all the potential names out loud just to make sure it's not something super obvious/bad.

I didn't connect Hertz to "hurts" right away. I don't think a lot of people would.

Nurse Hertz, though, reminds me of some Dear Abby articles (and some sections of some of my baby name books) about people with names that "match" their professions.

I say Landon like 'landin' too but while "landing hurts" is techinically a sentence or whatever, it doesn't seem like anything to be teased about IMO

i figured Rayne was for a girl but i just wanted to check. I like it

I didn't make the connection with any of those names when I first heard them. It wasn't until I was trying to figure out what was wrong with them that I made the connection, and I didn't make it with Landon at all until I read your comment above.

I think you're safe.

I know what you are going through! Our last name is Cross and it just so happens that my husbands name is Christopher *laugh now* So you can see why I say I know what you are going through. I really loved the name Mae to use as a middle name but then I think we would really be asking for our child to get teased for ex: Emma Mae Cross to me its like emma mae cross the street. But thats just me. Good Luck!

I made the connection right away, so most people might. Rain Hurts - I dunno.

I mean, there's nothing you can really do about your last name. I have a friend with the last name Fell. So, basically any name would make it a sentence. I think it's more interesting than material for being picked on.

I made the connection right away too but your last name isn't anything kids or people will poke fun of really. I know a few with last names like Hooker, which is far wore.

I really like Rayne. I prefer the spelling Rain, seems more "earthy" haha, but Rayne is cute as well.

Sounds kind of like me. I've always liked the name Hunter for a boy and thought one day I'd get married, have a baby, and I'd have a little Hunter Drake [Insert married name]. Except things didn't really turn out like that and I'm still single with an unplanned little boy who will have my maiden name of Fisher. I sort of joke around about it now saying I'll name my kid Hunter Gatherer Fisher or Hunter Trapper Fisher, haha. :]

If it's any comfort, I dated a guy with the last name Gross.
And went to school with a girl whose last name was Capenigro - pronounced "Cap-uh-Nee-grow."

I personally would try to stay away from any names that would make statements like that, but it's just me.

To me, it could cause people to think of hail or something... yes, I know hail isn't rain. :P Kids might pick up on the connection, and they could be cruel... I dunno.

It took reading the comments to realize what you were talking about for me. I wouldn't worry too much.

I didn't get the Braden Hertz until I read it like six times.

ok so I laughed a little bit at that, bc I have that kind of a weird sense of humor.

I caught the references right off the bat too. maybe nouns & action sounding names SHOULD be off limits for you. I know if it was me, I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it either. I mean, in reality, most people would probably not notice or make fun, but it would bug the crap out of me to think they might.

I went to school with a kid named Mathew Burns. It was funny for like, 10 minutes but it never got really bad. I do think Rayne Hertz would be just slightly too far :/ It's just too amusing to be taken extremely seriously as a name. Just my thoughts though :) Good luck.

Hertz sounds like a pretty normal last name to me. Rayne is the problem...

I got the connection right away, and I think it sounds ridiculous. (Rayne and Landon I mean). But as long as you steer clear of names that are also words in English you shouldn't have as big a problem.

Ha, Nurse Hertz.

My two doctors are named Dr. Torcher and Dr. Dye, and it didn't even occur to me that I was visiting "Dr. Torture and Dr. Die" until my friend pointed it out.

Rayne is pretty, but it might be a bit much with the last name Hertz. Maybe as a middle name?

I had a friend with the last name Fell too. I felt bad. She got made fun of a lot, and heaven help her if she tripped lol.

I think anyone with the name Rayne is going to get teased regardless.
