last name woes
Mar. 18th, 2007 10:12 pmMy soon-to-be last name is Hertz, and it is presenting more of a problem with any names for future children than I had ever thought. Immediately, it knocked out one of my favorite names, Landon. And at one point in time I had pitched Braden to my fiance, to which he replied, "Only if Hair can be the middle name." Har har, right?
A name I really have been trying to sell him on is Rayne. So my question to you is, would Rayne Hertz get my kid picked on? LoL Honestly, most people tell me they don't even think of the Hertz=hurts connection until it's pointed out [like, for instance, my mom always laughs because I'm about to graduate from nursing school, so I will be Nurse Hertz].
So what do you think? Am I asking for my kid to get teased?

Date: 2007-03-19 03:20 am (UTC)Rayne for a boy or girl? It's not bad.
I don't think you are asking for your kids to get teased just because of the last name, but I would say all the potential names out loud just to make sure it's not something super obvious/bad.

Date: 2007-03-19 04:34 am (UTC)I really like Rayne. I prefer the spelling Rain, seems more "earthy" haha, but Rayne is cute as well.

Date: 2007-03-19 04:38 am (UTC)If it's any comfort, I dated a guy with the last name Gross.
And went to school with a girl whose last name was Capenigro - pronounced "Cap-uh-Nee-grow."

Date: 2007-03-19 12:51 pm (UTC)I caught the references right off the bat too. maybe nouns & action sounding names SHOULD be off limits for you. I know if it was me, I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it either. I mean, in reality, most people would probably not notice or make fun, but it would bug the crap out of me to think they might.

Date: 2007-03-19 05:36 pm (UTC)That's exactly me! My tastes might change by the time I'm having kids, so this may never end up being an ACTUAL problem. I've just liked that name for quite a few years now!

Date: 2007-03-20 12:02 am (UTC)My two doctors are named Dr. Torcher and Dr. Dye, and it didn't even occur to me that I was visiting "Dr. Torture and Dr. Die" until my friend pointed it out.
Rayne is pretty, but it might be a bit much with the last name Hertz. Maybe as a middle name?

Date: 2007-03-20 12:05 am (UTC)I was thinking either middle name, or maybe Rayna and call her Rayne as a nickname or something.
Thanks. :-)
