Or a name that ends in -win... my husband was fond of the name Corwin (for a boy), which I think is pretty gag-me... nicknames for Corwin would either be Cory or Winny (winny though seems more fmeinine than Cory). We're having a girl though so we don't even have to go there, ;-)
I like it. I hate Winnie the Pooh so I refuse to draw that association. I don't remember The Wonder Years that well. Winnie is a nickname for Winifred for me though. I don't like it as a name on its own. I have a rat, whom I didn't name, called Winter. I call her Winnie to pretend she actually has a proper name and I can call her something sensical, hehe. I can imagine Winnie on a girl and it sounds very posh, imo. Very nice. Again though, only as a nickname.
It's pretty/cute. It wouldn't like it as a given name, but would make a nice nn for Winifred, which it's short for. Makes me think of Wonder Years, not Winnie the Pooh. :) I'm sure for some it might bring to mind Winnie the Pooh, but I didn't think of it until I read your second question. However, if obesity runs in your family or your child falls prey to the junk food craze or has a metabolic disorder, it could end up being an unfortunate name.
After reading the comments, it seems the majority don't think Poh. I think maybe that's because he never goes as Winnie, but as 'Winnie the Pooh' or just 'Pooh'
Since others gave their Pooh preferences-- I don't hate Pooh, but I used to. Well, not hate him, but he was like the only neutral nursery theme I could find and I didn't want an all-Pooh nursery. And I didn't like all the hype. However, my daughter really liked Pooh. Well, she couldn't see very well, but she had a musical wind-up Pooh that played the music for the 'stuffed with fluff' song and she just loved it, so now I have a special fondness for all things Pooh. Also, my husband started calling me his Pooh-bear when I was pregnant.. it started one night I was running through the dark bedroom naked and very pregnant. :)
Okay, done sharing too much. :D
My concern over reminding of Pooh wouldn't be that the bear is bad, but, like I mentioned, if the kid is chubby or fat it could be unfortunate.

I think it's a cute name, for a pet.
