How does one pronounce these names...

Helena (ha-lay-na OR Hel-la-na)

Elena (ah-lay-na OR El-la-na)

Also, what do you think of the names? The first is a family name of my friend.

El-lay-na for Elena, but Helena really depends. The Helena I've known was Helen-a, as is Helena Bonham-Carter, but Helena Christensen is Hel-lay-na, so it really is just parental preference (and nationality, I guess). I think either is lovely.

I know a baby named Elena pronounced Eh-leh-na. Her 3-year-old sister made sure that I knew how to pronounce it correctly, because I kept calling her Eh-lay-na

Helena--either is find, the second is more British-sounding.

the second Ah-lay-na.

El-la-na would be Elana or Alana.

My mom's middle name is Elena and she has always pronounced it more like the ah-lay-na.

Elena is my top favorite for a girl's name as I expecting.
I was just looking through the posts and I had to comment as I don't see that name as much.

I always liked it and she was named after my grandma's little sister who was killed in War War 2.
