Im currently watching one of my all time favorite movies, Hocus Pocus. And I really like the name Thackery, but Im pretty sure that a)it has no meaning at all and b)the hubby would never go for it (he says that Binx is a better name, hahaha).
So what names from favorite movies or theatre programs do you love but would never use? Why?

Tracy, as in Tracy Lord in 'The Philadelphia Story'. It's a lovely name, I think, but it has a fairly poor image in the UK. Along with another 1970s name Sharon, people tend to associate it with a lack of class and education.

I also like Bathsheba, although the origins of that are more book ("Far From the Madding Crowd", and, originally of course, the Bible) than film/theatre. I'd never saddle a child with it, though!

I like Thackery too, but it just sounds too much like saying Zachary with a lisp.

I like the name Kansas. I got that from this cheerleading movie called Sugar and Spice. It's actually the only cheerleading movie I like because it's actually funny, but also stupid.

Whitley for a boy. I heard this on that really horrible movie, Baby Geniuses. They called the boy Whit though.

I like Ephraim and Felicity. Ephraim is apparently from a show called "Everwood"...but I've never watched it. Felicity well, Keri Russel's show. I used to watch that way back in the day.

And, sorry...I'm with Mike, I like Binx better. ;)

Wow, it's really Thackery? I always though Winnifred was just saying Zachary weird.

I always thought his name was Salem Saberhagen (I guess I misheard the n at the end,) with Salem being his first name and Saberhagen his last.

I knew a Felicity Joy. She wasn't thrilled with the meaning of her name, which she said was Happy Happy.

My best friend's son is named Ephraim so to me it seems very usable. Though it got some weird reactions at first, everyone seems to like it now.

And yes, it sounds the same as on Everwood, though I think they spelled that kid's name Ephrem some reason.

I love Felicity too, both the name and the show. It's the only show I own in entirity on DVD. Such comfort TV for me.

My husband is into much more...."run-of-the-mill" names. He thinks Ephraim is "weird." lol. I'm pregnant with our second and last child, though...which is a girl (we already have one daughter) so it doesn't look like I'll get the chance to name a boy, anyway. ;)

I like Jed, after the President on the West Wing. But I feel like it might be a little too "hick" (Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed...)

Well, one of my favorite Shakespearian names is Iago but of course the character makes it rather hard to use. I do like it as a middle name for Philip though. But honestly, most of my over the top names are from Mythology.

And I love Hocus Pocus!

I rather like Bathsheba too, though I've never read that book. However, I agree that it's a bit much for a child.

I was thinking the same thing! I've seen that movie a billion times and I always thought it was Zachary.

According to wikipedia, you're right. Salem Saberhagen is his first/last name. I already closed the other tab or I would like you to the page, but it's on the page about Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

I thought everyone in that movie WAS actually saying Zachary until my friend told me about 3 months ago that it was Thackery. T___T

I like a lot of names from Narnia and Harry Potter. The only ones I think I would ever really end up using are James, Caspian, Ronan, and Lily. Though I don't think I'd ever use James and Lily together, lol. I also like Tirian, Rilian, Corin, and Shasta from Narnia.

I've entertained the idea in my head that if I ever had a red-headed girl, I'd name her Ginevra, or if I had a red-headed boy, I would name him Ronald. But I'd never actually do that, lol.
