I know six month old twins named:

Kali (Callie) and Kadince (Cadence).

I love the name Cadence, but hate that spelling. I also prefer Kaylie to Callie.

What do you think?

I would feel a great swell of pity for anyone unfortunate enough to be named Kali.

wouldn't Kaylie be pronounced Kayley? I've always been under the impression Callie was Cal-ee

I think they're both horrible and juvenile sounding. They are definitely going to be dated. Yuck.

I thought the OP was saying she preferred the name Kaylie to the name Callie... not that it was a different spelling of the same name

I think you're right...
If I tried to write it phonetically it would be like

kaaah-lee

Or, "Car" with the "r" dropped off.

Cot sounds nothing like "aah" to me but if I try to think of American accents then it makes sense :P I find it so weird when people on here say something like, "Rosana is pronounced rose-ONNA" because I think "ahn" and "on" are extremely different.

Yeah that all makes sense. Haha yeah I studied linguistics about 4 years ago and learned the IPA but I can't remember it all... but the funny thing about this is that I can tell what sounds you are referring to in all your examples, but only because I'm trying to think in your accent and not my own. I would pronounce "law" and "lor" the same way, so "aw" has more of an o sound!

Callie is ok, but I'm sorry, I really hate the name Cadence. Maybe it's because I was in marching band, but I just do not like it as a name. It's even worse spelled Kadince.

Actually I believe Kali and Callie are two different names. Callie would be of Greek origin meaning beautiful whereas Kaliis a Sanskrit name meaning, according to my books, "energy; black goddess; time the destroyer", or Hawaiian for "hesitating"

I actually really like both (Kali or Callie)

Don't care for Cadence and Kadince is even worse, IMO

I REALLY hate it when people bastardize word names...

Other than the fact that Kali is a terribly violent and prominent Hindu goddess whose sole purpose is massacer and destruction? That's like naming your kid Zeus or Loki, except this one still has temples and followers. I wouldn't want my kid associated with that.

Cali's not bad. See the comment under this one for why I don't like Kali.

Haha, I agree! WORD, not name. And spelled like Kadince it's even more atrocious.

Especially when the word should have never been used as a name.
