My friend married a Hungarian guy last summer and the two are expecting their first child. She just recently posted on her blog that they had decided on these names:

Girl - Lila Louise Z.

Boy - Noah Matyas Z.

Lila (lee-la) is a concept of Hinduism and literally means "play". Lila is Hungarian for the words violet or purple. Louise is German and means "beautiful".

Noah is Hebrew and means "rest" or "relaxation". Matyas (MATT-yash) is the Hungarian form of Matthew. Matthew is also Hebrew and means "Gift of God".

Personally, I think Lila is going to go through life correcting people pronouncing her name incorrectly. Other than that, they are nice. WDYT?

I don't like Lila, I agree, she'll always be correcting people. I also don't like all the alliteration...

I personally just don't like the name Noah. I'm not sure why exactly. The bible + the softness just makes it unappealing to me I think, and it's popularity. But I shouldn't even say that since I like Joshua, haha. Anyway, it's not bad though. I'm not sure if I love the Matyas, but it's unique and purposeful so, I won't complain :)

I knew a Lila, and mispronounciation didn't seem to be a big deal. I think it's a lovely name.

The one Lila I know is an awful person so I can't stand the name. And also, the girl will have her name pronounced wrong her whole life.

i like lila pronounced that way (they say it that way in france too) and think it looks nicer than 'leela'. but yeah, she'll probably have to correct people a lot.

Lila Louise- yes, she'll probably be called Lila a lot. I hate Louise, Lila Eloise would have been beautiful.

I knew a Lila growing up.. from what i recall, she really didn't have much mispronunciation.. except from teachers and such, but she normally would go "hi my name is Lila", and then they would remember it.

I don't see it as a big deal.
People can mispronounce any name if they try hard enough.

I was travling years ago, and we met a man from turkey, and his name was spelled that way and he took 10 minutes explaining to my family that its pronounced ma-tee-is...

I didn't ahve any issues saying Lila pronounced right. People shouldn't name their children names simply because some people may pronounce it wrong.

Regardless, I love both names! Espeically the non common form of Matthew.

Yeah, I don't normally like alliteration as it is, but when the L is already repeated in the first name it makes it a lot worse

It looks like Lilah to me (lie-la) so that's how I read it.... I guess it depends where you come from whether you might read it as lee-la automatically or lie-la

They probably wanted names that would go ok in both hungarian and english... not too big a deal if you ask me.
