Random names I want to use (girls):
Wynne, Tudor, Tamsin, Briseida, Marlowe, Gwenllian, Lyric, Dagny, Karys, Cressida, Antigone, Lysis, Miranda, Lilja.

And for boys:
Balian, Llywelyn, William, Othello, Parris, Hamlet, Wencilian, Edmund, Edward, Dorian. I kind of like Mortimer, but I'm not too certain on that one.

WDYT? Would any of these names be embarrassing for a child? Also, I like Desdemona (despite my hatred for anything with "mona" in it; "mona" reminds me of an obese woman badly faking an orgasm) but can't use it for that reason. Are there any alternatives or similar names?

Embarrassing:
Hamlet
Tudor
Antigone
Paris
Othello
Wynne
Llywelyn
Mortimer

The rest, are OK to name a child but I don't like them.

I love Cressida and Desdemona!

For boys I love William, Edmund and Edward!

I'm kinda fond of Shakespearian names, I love Rosalind, Celia, Helena, Viola, Cordelia, Portia, Perdita, Juliet, Katherina, Luciana, Nerissa, as well as some guy's names!
Don't think I'd ever actually use any of those though...

I like a lot of them but many are too OTT for me to ever use. They kinda scream "look at me, I'm an intellectual!" On the other hand, Llewellyn is my brother's second middle name and I don't think it's weird at all. I also really like Mortimer and Miranda.

Are there any female Tudors in Wales? I thought it was only ever a male name.

I like Tamsin, Miranda and Lilja. If you like Lyric and Lysis, what about Lyra? OK, it's ripped straight out of 'His Dark Materials', but I think it's a bit nicer than the other two.

For boys, William, Edward and Llewelyn are nice. Although Dorian is a boy's name, I think the common association is probably with Dorien from 'Birds of a Feather', so it may be a bit of a risk!

Like: Edward, Edmund and Miranda.

My name's Tamsin, and whenever I meet an adult or something, they always go, "Oh? What an interesting name! Is it Irish?" (Because of my hair). I've never actually been made fun of for it. :)

Cressida is the full version of the name I chose for my daughter. I went with just Cressa. I love it. I like Cressi and Cressa as a nickname for it. I actually really like Marlowe and Desdemona. I don't really like the boy names, sorry. But boy names are really hard and I'm very picky. I think Mortimer is somewhat cruel...

I'm pretty sure Mortimer would get beat up on the playground. Every day.

Yeah... that's what I was thinking.

I think it's pronounced Ly-ra, as it's written, rather than being a take on the word lira (lear-a).

Parris - seriously? For a boy and spelt wrong? Marlowe? Mortimer? Antigone? Most of these names would be embarrassing for a child! Shakespeare isn't exactly cool...

However, I love Lilja and Dorian. Miranda, Edmund, Tamsin and Karys (although I think Carys looks less trendy)!
