[identity profile] oh-so-sweet2me.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So...Me and my bf finally got a name for our baby. After months of arguing and rejection...I finally came to terms with the name he wanted.

I originally wanted Hayden, before I found out the popularity of it...then I was determined to find a cute unique name that I liked..but then I realized...all the names I picked out that were unique, were all the names that everyone ELSE was picking out, because they as well want a unique name..

So while everyones going after the different-unique-crazy-less heard of names...they are not realizing that everyone else is picknig out the same names..

So I have a feeling that "traditional" names are not going to be as popular this year.

So the name is Michael Scott Reid

I think it sounds nice...

I was oringinally against it because Michael was suchhhh a popular name, but I have a feelings its popularity is going to die down for the next couple years since everyone wants "unique" names. Plus Michael is my boyfriends name, and Scott is my fathers name. So it has meaning. I've grown to love it.

So, what do you all think?

It's okay. Michael is still pretty popular (it was #2 in 2005).

You could even go MORE traditional and pick names like Felix, Malcolm, Adrian, etc.

You can check the popularity of names here: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ (I'm assuming you're American).

I think it's a great name. I know what you mean about popular 'unique' names. Growing up I never heard of anyone named Aiden and we thought we would name a boy that, but then we found out how very popular that is. Well, we found out we are having a girl anyway so that didn't matter. But, we are having the same problem with picking out a girl name.

I like that a lot. Mick and Mickey are both rarely-used nicknames, if you don't mind them/nicknames in general.

Don't take this as me suggesting you shouldn't use this name, because I'm not in the slightest, but it made me giggle because Michael Scott is the name of the boss on the American version of 'The Office,' and he's a bumbling fool. Ephemeral cultural references aside, I think it's a very nice name. :)

I was JUST going to say that.

Of course, it could be worse: if she named the baby "Agent Michael Scarn."

I like Michael because it's my boyfriend's name too :) Not mad keen on Scott but it flows well with the other names.

Personally all the Michael's I've ever met are huge creeps, but I'd rather see a classic name then the ten millionth Aiden.

The Office is the first thing I thought of when I saw Michael Scott.

Michael is nice, but I don't see its popularity dying down at all, even with all the Aidens out there. I'm not crazy about Scott and I'm also not crazy about naming the baby after your boyfriend, but it does flow nicely.

Michael is still popular. I work at a school and there are alot of Michaels.

However, I think it's a wonderful name anyway.

It's also my dad's name (and two of my uncles' and one of my cousin's).

I find it boring and too common, sorry. And I dislike naming after fathers, esp if baby is already taking his last name.

I think even if he's not technically a junior, having a parent and child with the same name is usually confusing. But if that doesn't bother you, there's nothing WRONG with the name.

Crazy, that's my uncles name. Michael Scott. Anyways... just for the record, Michael has been at #2 for 7 years and #1 before that. I hate to knock down on a name you like so much, but I doubt it's really going anywhere anytime soon. But if you really like it, go for it. It's a beautiful name and it flows fabulously.

Michael has been in the top 10 since 1943, it rose o number 1 in 1954 and has stayed at the top forever, except 1960 when it was pushed to 2 and then again in 1999 where it has stayed since.
I don't think you could get much more popular name really..
Having said that it's an okay name but I do prefer Hayden, even thuogh it's trendy I happen to like Hayden and Caden of the -en names.
Hayden seems a lot more of a real name, it has been in to top 1000 for over 100 years whereas another -en say Jayden only entered in 1998... totally made up.

I like it! It's the same situation with my uncle & cousin. My uncle's name is Michael Anthony, but as he got older, everyone started calling him Mike. So he and my aunt named their first son Michael Vincent, and he goes by Michael so it's really not confusing at all to distinguish between the two. I don't know if your boyfriend goes by Mike, but that's always a plus if he does and you want to avoid nicknames for your son like "Little Michael" or "Mikey."

You're naming your baby after your boyfriend? Wouldn't that get a little confusing if they go by the same name? I think it flows well, though. I like Scott.

That's going to be the trend of 2007, I think.

I love the name and the sentiment behind it!! Michael is a good strong name and it sounds really good with Scott. Congrats!

My brother's name is Michael Scott.
It's just your normal, everyday, traditional name to me.
I don't love it or hate it.
It's just THERE to me.

IAWTC. minus the liking of Caden, though I don't hate it as much as the other -aden names.

I know four people named Michael Scott [Last Name], all born between '80 and '84. I'm dead serious. Haha. So yeah, I guess that name combination is pretty common. They go well together.
