How significant do the final initials play in your role of settling on a name? We were able to find out the gender today (pink team, yay!) so we can FINALLY get around to picking out a definite name. Like most girls, I'd had a few name sets picked out for ages. However my most favorite name set, paired with my married last name: AOL. It's not really a large deal, but it bugs me enough to question things. Should I just get over it or am I slightly validated?

I wouldn't worry about AOL. I think that if anything, it would be seen as funny. I only think it's bad if it spells something not so good (or similar such as FUK) or FAT or something like that.

I really don't think it's a huge deal. If it spelled out ASS or PMS or something like that, I could see making a change, but it's really not a big deal.

i think initials should play a part in choosing a name for your child.
you have to try to think like a twelve year old... they can make fun of ANYTHING.
so if your child ends up with initials like ZIT, ASS, and so on. they'll be made fun of as soon as his/her classmates find out.

my feeling is if it bugs you now, it's going to bug you forever.

p.s congrats on your little girl!!!

If I am in love with a name, that's it. The initials aren't going to dissuade me.

I've known some people with some awful words made out of their initials (ASS and PIG, once) and they jsut kind of laughed and got over it.

I think AOL is on the better side of "words" that can be spelled from initials.

I would never ever let initials dissuade my choice of a name.

it's not a big deal unless it's like, SEX or something inappropriate for a child.
my initials are AA. alcoholics anonymous has been a wow youre the first to say that, ever type thing since third grade. my self esteem is not effected.
so, if aol effects self worth, the problem lies deeper than the name.

The initials of my brother's friend: OAF. I wouldn't worry about it.

haha, just be happy it's not KKK.
there are MUCH worse intials than AOL, so i wouldnt be concerned with it. PLUS by the time their generation is even grown enough to even care, i doubt that AOL will still be around, or atleast not as big as it is now. :)

AOL is not bad at all. I keep thinking up names that start with a "P" and then realize the middle name will be an "I" and therefore the initials would spell PIS. not going to happen!

Of course, 12 year olds can make fun of anything, which means if her initials don't spell anything, they'll just pick something else. I wouldn't let it influence your choices too much.

If I had married a man with the last name starting with T or R, my initials would spell EAT or EAR. It made me laugh when I thought of that.

If it's something silly like that, don't worry about it.

I think keeping the initials in mind is important, but it's certainly not something that should be TOP priority. Yea, it's generally not a great idea to have initials that spell things noted in posts above me, but truthfully... how often does one go by all three initials? More frequently than not your child will just be A.L. if initials are needed.

I believe that intials should play a big role in naming a child. Your kids would get teased for the intitals for sure and that's something I can guarantee cause I am an 11yr old girl, and I 've seen kids getting teased for there intitals.

That 's just my opinion on it. You don 't have to listen to it if you don 't want to.

AOLs not too bad. She doesn't have to tell everyone her middle name if she doesn't want to. If you really love this name, go for it! Whats the name, if you don't mind my asking?

I think you should be fine with AOL, there's nothing really about it that would cause a kid to be picked on. Mine will be interesting and I hope he doesn't get picked on, I think people will think it's neat. We didn't do this on purpose but our child will be Ian Andrew N********, his initials will be IAN, the same as his first name:)

My three initials don't spell anything, but my first and last, which are frequently used, are "EW." My gym shorts always said that, but I thought that was more funny than embarrassing.
No one else ever seemed to notice or care.
