[identity profile] mooie-ziel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This community has a love/hate relationship with -den names [probably more hating going on I think...myself included].
So I thought I'd throw out a shitload of -den names [and their variations] and see if any -den haters find any they don't hate.
Though I'm sure it'll show more -den lovers more names to add to their list.
It's all about perspective.

* = I don't mind [in reference only to the -den versions]

Brandon never struck me as a -den name.
Maybe because it has been around longer and isn't part of the Aiden-Jayden frenzy.

Maybe I'm just defensive cause it's the name I picked for my fetus. :P

Haha stop giving people ideas :P

I don't mind some of them but I don't really like any. I especially don't like it when it's just a few "nice sounding" letters with -den tacked after it, e.g. Brayden. There are some there that I would be more likely to class as "surname/place name" sort of names, less so than fitting in with the -den trend.

But I do like Aidan, just not as much now that it's popular. I just always thought of it as a solid Irish name. Don't like it spelled Aiden though. I have never liked it enough to use it, but I think it's still a decent name with a history, unlike all these newly invented -den names.

Yeah I think of Aidan, Brandon and Brendan as "real names" and names like Jayden, Caden, Hayden etc. as trendy invented names even though they're mostly not really made up.

I think I'd fret if I suddenly started seeing it butchered like.. Braandyn or Brahnden or some other cracked out spelling people are creating these days, haha.

I still really love the name Hayden, I picked it out before even knowing that it was a fad. =[ I wish it wasnt..otherwise I'd use it..but I'd really rather not have my son go to school with a million kids with names that ryhme with his...

Also, I have a little cousin named Brayden, hes 4 years old.

I ♥LOVE♥ most of the -aden names. My favs are Aiden, Jayden, Cayden, Shayden, and Hayden. I never liked Brayden cause I've known so many jerks named Brayden.

I am adding Arden to my list :)

I don't care about popularity as much as most of the people in this group do, to me it's if you love a name you might as well use it.

The other ones I hate!

It's not the -den ending I mind, it's -ayden. Jaden, Brayden, Shayden, Ramalamaayden. Whatever.

I'm not a -den hater so much as a "rhymes-with-Aidan" hater. Those are the real abominations, IMO. The rest are mostly just surnames, which are kind of blah, but okay. I have a soft spot for Ogden and Auden because of the poets, but would never inflict them on a living being. I do like Aidan as a name, but its popularity - and all the bastard-names it has produced - turn my stomach.

While I'm not a fan of most of the names you named, I agree with this. No name should be completely disowned because it's popular. It wouldn't be popular unless a lot of people agreed it was a good name!

as for the other names on the list, some are ok, and some more are terrible. but lots of classic names end in that sound.

Seeing Shayden/Shaydon/whatever in the comments seriously made me LOL. That is one hideous name. And Brayden, WTFFFFF... I will never see the appeal in that. How is BRAY a nice sounding prefix to -den? It's so so so awful.

I think it's only the -aden names that I hate. I like a lot of -den and -don names. I like Elden, and Auden. But it's the Aidens, the jaydens, the braedynns and kaiydynnes etc that piss me off.
The only -ayden name that I don't hate as much as the others is Hayden, but I still can't use it because it's too dang trendy and popular and my husband doesn't like it.

Actually I just remembered: I can't use ANY -den names because my last name is a -den name!
