Ive heard it before, and I dont think its that bad. Shes just got to be careful with the middle and last name though; if they dont flow well, then itll be bad.

It's cute but it sounds a bit out of place on someone with no Japanese heritage.

I think it's pretty, and it has probably the single best meaning of any name I've ever heard. It bugs me how it sounds like a question though. "Am I a...?" Are you a what? Half the time people seem to want to pair it with Rose, which sounds especially bad.

Here I think it sounds nice. Amaya Grace Anderson isn't too bad. (Though I do hate, hate, hate the overused filler name Grace.)

My first reaction is also Real World Hawaii but I love the name. I hadn't heard it until that show, but I think it's pretty.

AA were my initials growing up=P AJA to be exact, and from them I got lots of nicknames including AJ, and Double A. In fact, a couple of my fellow name alliteration friends called each other (and still do even though we're married) by first and last name BECAUSE of the alliteration; I was Ashli Anderson and my good friends were Jeremy Jones and Sarah Shaw-- but they were cooler than I because they were triple letters, Jeremy Jess Jones and Sarah Shirley Shaw. It was a fun game. Now... I'm just boring ole AJM. =\

Lmao, thats great! Knowing me, Id probably get irritated having all my names start with D. I never had nicknames growing up, and Im pretty adimant about not having my eventual children have them either.

I really couldnt tell you why, exactly, I get irritated by it though. Weird.

My parents didnt like nicknames either. They chose the names Ashli and Adam (my brother) because there's not really a whole lot of nicknames that can be derived from them. They joked before I was born, "What are they gonna call her? Ash?" and ironically, since I was little 98% of the time my dad has called me Ash. I've had a slew of nicknames including Ashy, Ash-head, Andy (from the last name Anderson), Dink, Ink Dink, Dinkster, Inky Dinky Do, Sis, Sister Sue... and right now at the preschool I work at, most people call me everyone Leelee. It's great, really=)

I, on the other hand, love nicknames and am condsidering what good nicknames my children could have with the names I've chosen for them=) I think part of what fascinates me the most about names is how varied the tastes of people are. Everything from pronunciation to origin to meaning to nicknames-- it's hard to find two people who like exactly the same things! It's so fun=)

Its cute to watch what kind of names kids will come up with. My husand, being the mature man he is ::cough:: is the one who tries to come up with the most rediculous nicknames he can think of, just to see if itll change my mind. It usually doesnt, hahaha.
