Oct. 20th, 2006 04:11 amMy mom is a calligrapher so we come across a lot of names and I really pay attention when I'm helping her proofread. Tonight we came across some interesting ones like Eleorah or Eloreah or something like that (I had never heard of it before and honestly I didn't care for it). One of the names was Honi, which my dad pronounced as HOE-nee. My mom goes, "It's Honi!" (pronounced like "honey"). I started laughing at the thought of someone named HOE-nee. I have a cousin named Honey and her name really suits her personality and everything about her, so it really works. Personally I'd be really hesitant to name my child Honey because it might work and it might not. Anyway, I just thought Honi looked kind of stupid and I can definitely see why my dad would automatically read it as HOE-nee.
