Oct. 8th, 2006 12:52 amMy cousin recently had a boy, Sean Patrick O'Doyle. Very Irish, I'm not sure how they spelled Sean either. So I was wondering, which spelling of the name Sean do you like best? I prefer Sean, and I don't really know any other ways to spell it other then Shawn.
Also, I absolutely LOVE the names Eliza and Elijah. I was wondering though, say I were to have twins and they happen to be a boy and girl, would that be too cutesy or similar? And if I were to just have a boy and girl at different times and name them that, would that kind of be weird since they both do sound fairly similar. I think I would name the girl Elizabeth and just call her Eliza for short. And like I said this is only if this would happen, I'm not pregnant and hopefully I won't be for another 10 or so years.

Date: 2006-10-08 02:41 am (UTC)I think Eliza and Elijah are beautiful names, but sound too similar. I have the same problem with the names James and Jade...I think they are too matchy for siblings. But I love them.

Date: 2006-10-08 03:54 am (UTC)I love the name Ellie, but my cousin already has that name taken. I'm kind of dumb when it comes to this, but I don't really want my child to share the name of any family members hah.

Date: 2006-10-08 06:41 am (UTC)I don't think Elizabeth and Elijah is too much.. You can use those nicknames if you want. You're expecting twins to happen? Does it run in your family?

Date: 2006-10-08 09:44 am (UTC)I know sisters called Aimee and Emily which don't actually seem all that similar, but everyone gets muddled especially their parents. So to use two very similar names would be just awful!

Date: 2006-10-08 12:12 pm (UTC)Eliza and Elijah are hugely similar, no wonder you like them both. I think that naming twins should be the same as naming other siblings though. If anything twins' names should be LESS matchy, not more, because they're already going to be stuck together in everything, they might as well have distinctive names, if that makes sense.

Date: 2006-10-08 06:06 pm (UTC)I hate Elijah. Could be cos someone has called me that before, haha, but also cos it's religious. Then again, that's a bonus for some people. Eliza sounds weird to me.
My name is Elsje - it's the Dutch form of Elizabeth. E names are nice. I just don't particularly like those. And yeah, too cutesy to give matchy names, twins or not.

They're both lovely, but yes way too close (same first three letters and number of syllables).

Date: 2006-10-09 12:10 pm (UTC)My ex was Shawn and his mother spelled it that way because "it rhymed with Dawn. D-A-W-N. Dawn. S-H-A-W-N. Shawn."
I def think that Elijah & Eliza are too close for siblings and it seems way too matchy cutesy on twins. Apparently, my husband even thinks it's too similar for cousins who won't/don't see each other often at all. I think we haven't seen my kid's cousin Elijah in
about... two years? at this point and he still won't let me consider using Eliza if this one is a girl.
