What do you think of Marlene? How would you pronounce it?
What do you like for a nickname?

I think it's okay.
I'd say it Mar-LEEN. Like, Darlene, but with an M. And speaking of Darlene, Marlene, in my opinion anyway, is muuuch better.

Nicknames could be Marly, but to me that sounds a bit like a pet's name, but still cute for a little girl.

Marly is the only nick name I can think of.

(Mar-leen) Personally I hate it. It sounds like a grandma name

I don't like this style of name, with the "een" sound at the end
But somehow names like Marlene, Darlene, Maureen, Doreen, etc.. seem bad, and names like Christine, Pauline, etc are fine. :-\
Not sure why.

I would say Mar-LEN, with a short e sound. I like it; I know a wonderful woman named Marlene who pronounces it that way. I don't think it needs a nickname.

It makes me think of Marlene Dietrich. I don't liek it, though.

Marley is cute. I'd use it as a fn and a nn.

Mar-leen. Nicknames would be Marley or Leen/Lena. I love the name, would use it if my last name didn't end in "een".

Fortunately for me, Marlena is similar enough for me to still love and be able to use. :D

!!!
I think Colleen's a nice name. Not at all hick-y, like some of the other names you listed.

I had an RA once named Marlena (Mar-Lehna) and I think that's beautiful. Marlene doesn't do much for me.

Marley would be the nickname. But in that case, I'd just name the kid Marley. It's cuter than Marlene.

Mar-leen. I prefer Marlena instead.

Ever since studying Marlene Dietrich at A level I would pronounce it Mar-LEY-na. I love it pronounced like that.
