what is with giving girls boys names all of a sudden?

i have just been informed that my cousin, mother of a little girl she named Jamie-Lee, has named her second daughter Billie-Joe. they are going to grow up to be truck drivers or something, i can tell.

personaly, my baby girl will be called "Jessica Rose". my partner wants "Mordikai" for a boy (its an old family name) and i like that it can be shortened to a more modern sounding "Kai" as a nickname.

EDIT: for the record, we live in the North-East of England. the hillbilly/redneck thing...urgh.

My problem with Billie Joe is I think of the guy from Geenday. Haha I dont know if thats his name but for some reason I think it is. I would prefer Billie Jo for a girl. Jamie Lee is very cute.

I love the name Mordikai!

Lonelygirl15!! hahaha.
I think Billie is cute as girls name.
My friend has a daugther named Billie.
Jamie reminds me of Jamie Lynn spears so I think female when I see it.

I know a Billie-Jo and she has a sister called Kennedy.
I can't help but think Billie-Jo is cute, but i can't imagine it on a teenager/adult, it's just too cutesy.

i don't think that's a recent thing, actually. i went to school with a billie jo and a frankie and i'm in my twenties. regardless, it sounds a bit too hillbilly for my taste. my first thought wouldn't be "boy" it would be "redneck." haha. ;)

Google will give you all the info you need on Lonelygirl15.
Basically Jessica Rose should be a well known name right now.

Ugh, Billie-Joe is awful! I can't believe people on here like it. =/ I hate boy names on girls, and will never understand the appeal. Unfortunately it's a very popular trend, though. People like to tell themselves that Charlie, Brett, Ryan, Kyle, Dylan, etc, are "unisex." I don't even really like Jordan, Taylor, or Mackenzie on a girl. Being feminine or having a feminine name isn't a bad thing, but people seem to think that naming a girl Charlie will make her spunky and strong because obviously calling her Charlotte will make her weak and wimpy.

Plus, it ruins perfectly good boy names. I can really see Ryan and Tyler making the jump over to girl names in the not-so-distant future. And god forbid any of these people give their SON a so-called unisex name. Once Ryan and Tyler make the leap, it'll be like naming your son Vivian, Kelly, or Leslie. Nobody will do it, even though it was originally a male name.

Grr. This is definitely the naming trend that bothers me the most.

Boys names on girls are supposedly spunky and cute and unique and strong. Girls names on boys are weak and feminine (which is apparently bad).

I hate this trend. It's nothing more than people trying desperately to be different. A female name with a boyish nickname (Alexandra = Alex, Josephine = Joey) is fine, but naming a girl Ryan or Tyler is tacky, trashy, and annoying.

UNISEX names are ok for girls (and sadly, Billie-Jo is a uni-sex name... *sigh*), but BOYS names for girls just annoy me...

I like "Mordikai" (my boyfriend is 'kai'), but I really don't like "Jessica Rose", sorry... probably because I know 342398+ Jessica's... :S.

One of my friends growing up was named Bobbie Jean Nicole (insert last name). We used to make jokes about her name all the time. :o)

wow, really dont see that in england much! Jamie-lee is more popular i guess, but Billie-Joe, with the JOE not plain JO.. awful.
Jessica Rose is pretty but also pretty boring...i generally dont like names that i knew on a lot of people growing up.. Sarah, Lizzy, Jo, Kelly...etc but Jessica is my favourite out of that group!

I completely agree with this, except that I don't mind gender-neutral names as nicknames. Like, girls called Sam, or Charlie, as long as their actual name is Samantha or Charlotte, etc..

Would you mind explaining the whole lonelygirl15 thing to me? I never quite got why people make a huge deal of it.

Basically some "16 yr old" girl on youtube made a bunch of friends with her awesome real videos.
Later a fan of hers [a stalker in my opinion] found out she was a fake.
They ended up announcing it on the news as it actually being a fake tv show thing. So shes basically an actress.
People are now bitching that shes fake but I don't think they understand what an A-C-T-R-E-S-S is.
I don't know why it got big enough to go on the news but it did & now all kinds of people feel betrayed and now leave her threatening messages.
& Thats the story of Lonelygirl15.

Shes awesome.. You should check it out.

I love the name Billie, it was my mother's name. She passed away in '98. I would love to find a way to use it, but I can't come up with anything.

Mordecai could be an old family name. I sincerely doubt that Mordikai is, with that spelling.

As for the girl name ... "All rise for Supreme Court Justice Billie Joe [Blank]."

PS: Billie Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahachee Bridge.

I agree I much prefer Mordecai. That's quite a good name I think. Jamie Lee and Billie Jo I'm not a fan of at all. Jamie Lee makes me think of Jamie Lee Curtis, and Billie Jo of Billie Jo Jenkins, who was murdered ten years ago.

Btw, North-East England? Which bit? I'm originally from Newcastle :)
