My favorite names today :)
Sep. 19th, 2006 11:50 pmopinions please! I'm afraid I'm getting a little too conservative in my old age! (Not actually old just feeling clucky and 22, which is young, i geuss, it's relative.)
Sophia Grace!!! I saw that either here or on myspace and thought it was so cute, and way more conservative than I'm usually into. *read=not weird and super-new-agey :-) which I have a tendency to, whether that is a good or bad thing.
Lyra Ophelia (Initials would be Loc) Fave character in the golden compass series by phillip pullman! She is a hero/anti-hero thing
Lily Ophelia- (Would honestly depend on how I thought about the kid/what it seemed like when I saw it. Some lillies seem to fit their names a lot better than others. eh well.. i also don't like it's apparent growing popularity
(Initials would still be loc, which reminds me of lock or locke, that writer dude with the social contract or whatev,
Ella Marie - Today I really like this name. It's kinda feminine, yet tough, to me. I can picture calling "Ella Marie C---get your butt in here for dinner!" lol
---
okay here's some more.. risky.. names that I like.
Eris Stella - my bf is a discordian, which means he likes chaos and is a follower of the goddess eris of dischord.
it used to be a classic greek thing, but now it's more a joke religion. Stella means star and I just kinda
like it. chaos goddess star or something. initials would be ESC :-) Kinda like escape, or esque, not
horrible, to me. Tho it's kinda gothy and idk
Stella Kallisti - Means star to the prettiest one (stella=star, kallisti=to the prettiest one) my boyfriend always
wears a golden apple around his neck inscribed with the greek letters for kallisti, which is a
Discordian thing. :-) It's from a myth where Eris the Chaos goddess wasn't invited to a party, so
she throws a golden apple into
this party where all the gods and goddesses were. The apple was inscribed with Kallisti-
meaning to the prettiest. Of course all the goddesses fought over it because they thought they were
hotstuff. lol :-) SKC init.
I saw this name for a girl, Galilee... it's kind of mormonish lol but I actually LOVE it at the moment! You could call her gal or lilee.
Emerson for a girl. Kind of controversial since it's based on a male romantic writer... but I actually like it. some famous person.. teri thatcher or something used it apparently. i could see it being cute for a girl
Ryder as a first name. only thing is would it automatically make you think of winona? i don't like her that much, i don't NOT like her, but,,, eh.
Azalia, Gretta, Melody, Indira, Pearl!! I like pearl today a lot. Kalia, Mimi, Isis-(wiccan thing I guess) Gemma, Brighid
Thanks for your ideas! Night everyone! ^-^

Date: 2006-09-20 04:38 am (UTC)I don't really like any of your combinations. Lily, Sophia and Ophelia are nice names, but I really don't like the names you've paired them with.

Date: 2006-09-20 05:50 am (UTC)Stella Kallisti is actually a nice idea. I never thought of using Kallisti as a name, but it's kind of cool - like Callisto! My only concern with it would be, naming your daughter "to the most beautiful" is kind of like calling yourself "the most beautiful," you know? And I would want my daughter's name to be all her own. Still, it has a nice flow, and I love Stella.
I don't like Eris Stella because it sounds too much like Maris Stella, a common epithet for the Virgin Mary.
Sophia Grace is pretty, but Sophia is top ten currently and Grace has to be one of the most common mns in the country right now... so it seems a bit blah to me. I feel similarly about Ella Marie - both very, very popular right now.
I love Greta, Azalia/Azalea, Indira, Pearl, Gemma and Brighid. Have you considered Anzia? I love Anzia and Azalea, though obviously not together.
Dislike Ryder, as I find it sort of suggestive sounding, particularly on a girl - "ride 'er." :/

Date: 2006-09-20 07:02 am (UTC)The "godess" names seem made up and not all that great compared to your better choices.
Sophia Grace & Ella Marie are the best.
Ella Marie being the one I lost most.
Ophelia is a pretty name, I just don't like the combinations you chose.
Maybe if you went with Lily's full name.. Lillian Ophelia.
Still.. I like Ella Marie better.

Date: 2006-09-20 11:10 am (UTC)a big weirdo who is also partially discordian herself, so yanno. i TOTALLY approve of names like 'eris' and 'kallisti.'
i mentioned this last time i commented, but my friends named their baby Aeris. they wanted to name her Eris but were a little afraid of the chaos potential.

Date: 2006-09-20 12:32 pm (UTC)Lyra Ophelia- oh my god i love this name. Lyra is such a great character to name after, and Ophelia is one of my favourite names. My friend has a baby Lyra Carmella.
Lily Ophelia- yeah, popular but the names sound great together.
Ella Marie -It's a bit boring...
Eris Stella - Love Eris, i alo like Aeris. I dont like Stella as much but i like the reason you do! The two 's' dont go well though
Stella Kallisti - I *heart* greek mythology. Athena is a possible middle name for me, goddess of wisdom & my name, 'Sophia' means wisdom/philosopher
Galilee- hmm dont like it
Emerson- it's okay, not my style really. Teri Hatcher used Emerson Rose, which is kind of pretty.
Ryder- nooooo, doesnt make me think of ryder, it makes me think a boy. i think the sex connections 'ride her' would be too much for a teenage gilrl
Azalia- love
Gretta& hansel? no dont like
Melody- its okay
Indira- dont like
Pearl- dont like, i prefer Opal!
Kalia dont like K's,prefer Calia
Mimi- too poodle-ish
Isis-love
Gemma- never liked at all, very plain & boring
Brighid- never liked, reminds me of a nun

Lily Ophelia- lovely
Ella Marie - very pretty, not a huge fan of Ella as a fn, I prefer it as a nn but its okay
Eris Stella - I don't like Eris but Stella is GREAT
Stella Kallisti - love love love Stella. So gorgeous. Kallisti, not so much but in the middle slot I don't mind it
Galilee - all I'm seeing is gay Lily. AWFUL!!!
Emerson - tacky and trendy. If you want her to blend in with a sea of other little girls, go for it. Otherwise, hell no
Ryder - boy only
Azalia - pretty
Gretta - very cool. Very old-fashioned but it sounds spunky and classic
Melody - so pretty :)
Indira - pretty

Date: 2006-09-20 11:25 pm (UTC)Our puppy is named Pearl, and I'm big on pagan beliefs and names, and the only thing I have to say on that regard would be - naming your child after a god or goddess might not be such a great idea. I know there are a lot of 'Jesus/Zeus' men running around out there, and it just doesn't appeal to me. But that's just me...
