There was this chick in one of the off-Broadway shows I worked at in college and her name was Funda (the "u" is pronounced like the "oo" sound in "book"). I don't know why but I randomly thought of her last night and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about her name. I think she is Turkish, but if anyone can verify the origin of the name and if anyone knows the meaning of Funda, please let me know!

And while I would probably never use the name on any of my own children, I have to say that for some reason it really worked for her. :)

Well I know 'funda' is a Zulu word that means 'learn' or 'read'. I've never heard it used as a name though. It might have a different meaning somewhere else.

I fully expected to see a response punning on "reading is funda-mental" (whew!)

Yes, it is Turkish feminine name. As for the meaning, Funda is "heath" (according to my Turkish dictionary).

No problem
But it's funny that she pronounced it with oo as in book...in Turkish the u is pronounced with the oo sound as in "cool" for example.
Anyway, I like the name ; )

I wonder if she got the name from hearing the doctor talk about "fundus height"! LOL!
