So just because I'm bored... these are the kids in my ss class (they'd all be about 6 yrs old)

Girls:
Chloe; Elise; Zoe; Sara; Amanda; Daniella; Tiffany; Emily; Madeline

Boys:

Logan; Thomas; Ryan; Nicholas x 2; Lawrence (but they always call him "Buddy".  as in hardly anyone realizes his name is really Lawrence.); Joshua; Paul; Dylan; Michael; Travis

I have no idea if it's a boy or a girl and as Logan is playing outside right now, it will have to remain a mystery:

Manon

also, in other news, my ss mother has two little brothers named Hutch & Speck.

I'm curious to see what  you guys think of these names (particularly Hutch, Speck & Buddy.)

i really love both chloe and zoe. madeline is nice but insanely popular, and i dont like maddie because there will be massive amounts of maddies running around in about ten years when all the toddler madisons are in high school.

for boys i like nicholas and dylan.

hutch and speck are odd, i hope theyre nicknames. buddy is gross, i hate it. they couldnt have thought of a better completely random nickname for their kid? they couldve picked anything!!

Manon is a popular French girls' name. I'm not particularly fond of it though, because of the big MAN in it ;)

Speck means bacon in German, so it seems really odd as a name (unless you are naming a pig).

To expand upon what previous posters wrote, Manon is a French pet form of Marie.

as people have said Manon is a girl's name.
Like, as in Manon Rheaume (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manon_Rh%C3%A9aume")

speck is weird. it sounds like a nickname for a fetus, that they decided to just name their kid that.

i hate Buddy. i don't even like it when parents call their sons "buddy" as a family nickname (like, only dad calls him buddy). it's just...i don't know. i don't like it.

hutch is interesting. i actually don't have a problem with it, though i would NEVER use it.

P.S. It occurs to me that Speck was used by some celebrity for his kid. I think it was John Cougar Mellencamp (or whatever permutation he goes by these days).

Buddy is funny. It's a nice nn. I imagine they just used it affectionately at first but said it so much that it ended up sticking. Lawrence definitely seems very formal in comparison. Maybe it just didn't suit his personality very well.

Manon is a french girl's name.

Hutch and Speck are just plain hilarious. Hutch, other than reminding me of a piece of furniture, seems more understandable. I can see it on the list of someone who likes soap opera character names like Stone, Remington, Brock... that's just kind of the style it reminds me of.

Speck is just... WTF?

I have no strong opinions on anything else. All decent, if boring, everyday names.

I didn't read other comments before posting mine. I see the Manon question has been more than addressed already, sorry.

Manon is a French girl's name, short for Marie. It's pronounced sort of like ma-NAW. you don't say the last n. Another related name is Ninon (ni-NAW) which is short for Anne.

I like it, I think its great. There is a great French film called Manon de sources.

Speck seems...small. Like Speck will never own up to anything BIG. It seems kind of pesky.

Hutch, however, I love, only because years ago there was a character on "As the World Turns" named Hutch and I thought he was the hottest thing EVAR. I think that "Starsky and Hutch" has taken over all connotations to that...but I will never forget the REAL reason I like "hutch".
