[identity profile] unboundvoice.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
We are having our third baby and it's our first girl. I thought girl names were going to be easier but it's turning out to be really hard!

My three top picks are (in order):
Cora
Willa
Norah

My husband basically prefers them in the reverse order and really doesn't like Cora (bad association).

Also middle name has to be Susan or possibly Sue (or maybe a variation) after his mom that we lost to cancer a few years ago.

Our boys are Kayden (I was young and regret this choice) & Dylan.

Any thoughts on the list? Or names that might be our style that aren't on there and could be considered?

I agree with your husbands order but only by a hair they're all lovely can't-go-wrong.

Other names I think as being a similar style Greta, Esme, Isla, Mabel, Estelle, Ivy, Gwen.

Congratulations!!

I really like Norah, Willa and then Cora. They're all nice. I've been on Norah lately because of Being Human and the Leftovers but my already chosen names are super personal so I won't use it.

Norah Susan, Cora Susan, Willa Susan. I think they all sound fine.

I was going to say about Kayden but it could be muuuuch worse so don't worry.

Since your name is Sarah, I kind of like the Norah/Sarah similarities without being super similar.

Willa Susanne is very pretty I think. I love when people spell Susannah or Suzanne with a middle S and it would honor the Susan grandmother better that way (than a Z). Norah and Cora are both beautiful, timeless and classy, but maybe a little on-trend.

Similar names to Willa, Cora and Norah to me: Eleanor, Clara, Georgia, Geneva, Thea, Theodosia, Althea, Lila, Emma, Ella, Alma, Elma, Elsa, Alice.

Though I like Cora best from your list, I wouldn't use it if your husband has a negative association.

Other names I think might work for you:
Madeleine (Maddie)
Adeline
Eva
Violet
Emily
Charlotte
Lydia
Amelia

We have a Cora who was almost a Nora, lol! Doesn't help, but I like your style. On the Kayden part, it's not your fault, lol.

Oh, I love Cora. But I love Norah too! What about Nora? (Closer to Cora?) For Susan et al, I really like Suzette and Susannah. ;) Nora Suzette is pretty cute.

Similar-ish names, Eleanor (Nora or Nell or Lea or Ellie), Hazel, Marigold, Amelia, Alice, Isadora, Isla, Cara, Caroline, Francesca.

PS. Congrats on the girl! I'm hoping we have two boys, then a girl. Or two girls, haha... We've currently only got one little guy. And thanks for your post on Kayden. I've always wondered if people regret names after they've used them. We went with a classic but fairly popular name, and two people I really dislike have used it in the last three months. Even though I have a toddler, I keep going back and forth on our second and third choice names, and wondering if we should have used those instead.

I named my first Kira. It was 2004 and Pirates of the Caribbean had just come out (starring Keira Knightingly). The 2003 baby name data showed it well towards the bottom of the 200s, but combined with other spellings and increased popularity generated in 2004, it's way more popular now. I kind of regret choosing that one. But her middle name was going to be Isis. Not regretting that choice to NOT give her that name, considering what ISIS means right now...

Norah and Cora made my lists as well!

I see too many teasing opportunities with Willa.

Charlotte, Scarlett, Alice, Lucy, Wendy, Leila, Delilah, Eva
