Baby Names In Decline

So, basically...the current generation naming their babies, do not want to give their children the names of themselves/their peers. The fact that these names are on the DECLINE make them that much more appealing to me, personally. As an Amanda born in the 1980s, I am drawn to names that are normal, but not "popular".

I find these trends fascinating.
I wouldn't use any of these because I heard them so often at school in the 90's, but there all pretty good names still and I like hearing other people use them.

I met a baby Danielle recently very cute, her older sister was Gemma.

As a Sarah born in the 1980s, I don't even turn my head when I hear someone yelling, "Sarah" so I didn't want to name my kids anything too popular or common. My husband is Daniel so we both have names that have spent a lot of time in the top 10. Our kids are Kira Jade and Maelle. The name Kira has still been increasing in popularity so she chooses to go by her middle name, Jade, so she isn't one of 2 Kira's in her class.

Maelle, on the other hand, isn't even a ranked name in the US. It looks like there were around 50 babies named Maelle in 2010 (the all time peak for that name), the year Maelle Ricker won the Olympic Snowboarding event in Canada. Even then, my Maelle was born in 2007 and has never met another Maelle, nor met someone who KNOWS another Maelle. She feels pretty lonely. She would love to meet someone with her same name. I didn't even imagine that would be a problem, as long as the name isn't totally bizarre and made up. I mean, we know an Alluwha and a Hatweya, and I bet she'll never meet anyone else with those names either, but that doesn't make her feel less alone or annoyed by being the only Maelle she knows.

Re: your list: I am glad Shelby is dropping because I don't like that name, but Seth is a great name! I also like Amber, Jada, Marissa and Danielle. If I hadn't been set on a single syllable middle name for Maelle, I would've considered Maelle Amber as a rock middle name to go with Kira Jade. (She's Maelle Claire instead).
