Looks like its the opposite, in US predominately used as girls name, but even then its not in top #1000, so lucky.

I'd use Daniel for a boy.
Maybe Dorothea for a girl.

I wouldn't use Dexter in real life though, because of the forever association with the TV program. I might consider Dana (named for Scully, of course!)
