[identity profile] breezy-boo.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
DH and I just found out we are expecting our first baby! We are so excited and since I've been on this site forever I'm excited to finally get to post about my own baby names!!

Our boys name is set. It will be Artem Elliott. Artem is a russian name, and my husband is from belarus. and Elliott is my moms maiden name (so obviously, my grandparents and family on that sides last name)

The girls name we are not as set on... our top contender is Lena Elizabeth. Lena is again a russian name and Elizabeth is after my grandmother, but is also my moms middle name.

We want a fairly uncommon first name. but not one that will be very hard to pronounce.

Other names I like:
Mae (my grandmothers first name was maevis but she went by elizabeth/betty)
Hannah- too common
Alice- too common again.
Alina- russian name, but i hate the nickname Ali...
Elena- longer version of my top contender... but im not sold. we also have a pug named Ella.
Alida
Claire- too common
Milena- again longer version of Lena, but DH doesn't like it :(

Boys names we like as well (to give more idea of our style)
Bennett
Caine
Alistair
Arlo- looovvee this one. too similar to artem though which is pretty set so we cant even use it if we have another boy!!

Soo any girl name suggestions??

Love Artem and Lena. I know an Alina. She is called Leelee, but she's still a baby.

Ali doesn't have to be the nickname. You could call her Lina or change it to Alena and still call her Lena.

Artem is great its unusual but its easy to pronounce if someone hasn't come across it before. Do you plan to use a nn?

Lena is quite uncommon and underused. I love it.

If you wanted a name longer for birth certificate or later in life and keep the nn Lena. I'd go with Elena, Selena, Leona, maybe Lenore.

I like several from Russian_mafia list

You've got some great names here but your too girl name made me think of Helena, I really love the name but couldn't use it cause we have a friend with the name. She pronounces it Hh-Leena not Helen-a.

I really love Lena! Nice choice. And Artem Elliott sounds strong and handsome.
I don't have that many suggestions, my husband's family is also Belorussian (but Jewish, so that's a whole other set of names) but one of my favorites was always Zofia, and I like Zofie as a nickname. I've always liked Zusha, too, and Sasha & Lev for boys. Or maybe Neva, for the Neva River in St. Petersburg?

When are you due? We just found out we're expecting our first as well, and I'm due end of October/first week of November. :) HUGE congratulations!!

What about Anya? Russian, but easy to say/spell. Probably not super common either. I've only ever met one, and she's Russian herself :P

Another Russian name I love is Ksenia, but that's a bit harder to say, I guess.

All of the names I had picked out pre-pregnancy don't sound right now. So, we're constantly talking about names, and finding nothing we absolutely love, never mind that we had three choices for each sex picked out six months ago. It is so frustrating!

Congratulations! How exciting.
I knew a Carolina who went by Lena. Not sure that goes with your naming style, though, lol. :)
