Expecting Number 1
Apr. 9th, 2014 03:15 pmDH and I just found out we are expecting our first baby! We are so excited and since I've been on this site forever I'm excited to finally get to post about my own baby names!!
Our boys name is set. It will be Artem Elliott. Artem is a russian name, and my husband is from belarus. and Elliott is my moms maiden name (so obviously, my grandparents and family on that sides last name)
The girls name we are not as set on... our top contender is Lena Elizabeth. Lena is again a russian name and Elizabeth is after my grandmother, but is also my moms middle name.
We want a fairly uncommon first name. but not one that will be very hard to pronounce.
Other names I like:
Mae (my grandmothers first name was maevis but she went by elizabeth/betty)
Hannah- too common
Alice- too common again.
Alina- russian name, but i hate the nickname Ali...
Elena- longer version of my top contender... but im not sold. we also have a pug named Ella.
Alida
Claire- too common
Milena- again longer version of Lena, but DH doesn't like it :(
Boys names we like as well (to give more idea of our style)
Bennett
Caine
Alistair
Arlo- looovvee this one. too similar to artem though which is pretty set so we cant even use it if we have another boy!!
Soo any girl name suggestions??

Date: 2014-04-10 03:58 am (UTC)Lena is quite uncommon and underused. I love it.
If you wanted a name longer for birth certificate or later in life and keep the nn Lena. I'd go with Elena, Selena, Leona, maybe Lenore.
I like several from Russian_mafia list

Date: 2014-04-10 05:18 am (UTC)I don't have that many suggestions, my husband's family is also Belorussian (but Jewish, so that's a whole other set of names) but one of my favorites was always Zofia, and I like Zofie as a nickname. I've always liked Zusha, too, and Sasha & Lev for boys. Or maybe Neva, for the Neva River in St. Petersburg?
When are you due? We just found out we're expecting our first as well, and I'm due end of October/first week of November. :) HUGE congratulations!!
