So I was at work yesterday and there was a little girl named Hunter.

Opinions?

Personally, I don't like it at all. To me, that's one name that CANNOT be a unisex name.

The first thing I think of is "Hunter Tylo"... mother, actress, model.
Then, I think of random boys in my classes growing up named that.

I think it is okay. There are far worse and far better though.

I dunno, I kind of like the idea of it, but I don't think I'd actually use it, if you know what I mean.

Fits right in with the girls named Jackson I've heard about recently. *eyeroll*

I don't like it at all either and I will forever associate it with a little girl who is completely horrid.

Hideous on a girl. Especially when you think of what it can be rhymed with. :(

I agree, it's one of the worst names that I've seen people try to unisex.

It reminds me either of a cruel and violent person or a complete bumbler, ala Elmer Fudd, so it doesn't really appeal for either sex

I swore I'd always name my son Hunter (in the past, not so much anymore) and because of this it was off limits to my best friend at the time. She got pregnant and wanted to use it as her daughter's name but didn't cause she thought I still had dibs on it. I think it's ok for a girl.
My first thought was Hunter Tylo...who is completely gorgeous. I actually kind of associate the name Hunter with attractiveness cause of her.

While I would never use Hunter I don't think it's on par with Jackson as inappropriate for a girl
Jackson = Son of Jack, so pretty much male specific
Hunter = someone who hunts, could be either gender. It's not like it's Huntsman or something.

I surprise myself by saying this, but I actually kinda like it on a girl. It does sound tough and tomboyish, yes, but there's also sort of an...elegance to it? I'm not sure. But it does make me think of that Lisa Frank leopard character, so maybe that has something to do with it.

It's interesting that people are WAY more willing to name their daughters with typical guy names, but not the other way around.

I just don't like it, but not necessarily more for a girl than a guy. I guess hunting is more of a male sport, but not exclusively so. I don't know... bloody animal carcass isn't particularly something I want associted with my child regardless of gender.

Ditto. I cannot imagine ever using that name for either gender, mostly because I don't like hunting. (I'm veg)

I hate the name Hunter on a boy and I hate it x100000 on a girl. It's got such violent connotations. What is the appeal? Ugh.

I think of Triple H from wrestling, so I don't like the name at all on anyone!

I can't picture putting it on a child of either gender. Mmm, bloodied dead animals. Don't you just love shooting stuff?

I think Hunter on a girl is awful. I don't think it's that great on a boy either.

However, Jaeger is a guilty pleasure of mine.. ;)

I actually like it on both girls and boys, though I admit moreso for a boy. The husband and I are currently discussing naming our future son Hunter. Though, we are both hunters, so I guess it kinda works for us ;)

My opinion? I don't like it when girls are named boy names lol. Boy names are hard enough w/out all the girls stealing the good ones.: p

Heard it used once before on a girl. I think it's okay. No real opinion.

I personally don't like the name for either gender. It's used too much and doesn't seem to have any meaning behind it. It's just a "Ooh, that would be SO cute" name.

I hate it. That is taking "unisex" names way too far. I hate it on a boy, too. Why do you want to name a child something so violent sounding? Ugh.
