what is some modern names that you all like?
i'm currently pregnant, and am getting a list of baby names, I really, really dislike plain old fashioned names like james, john, thomas etc, I'm looking for funky names that aren't necessarily unheard of, but not all that common?

Even though I'd initally said that I wouldn't get a name book, I did end up buying one. It's called Baby Names Your Child Can Live With by Lisa Shaw. It sorts boy and girl names into three catergories: Tried and true classics, slight daring choices and nameds that will have kids living on the edge.

For example:

boy tried and true: Ryan
boy slightly daring: Rafferty
boy living on the edge: Rapier

girl tried and true: Annabelle
girl slightly daring: Ayanna
girl living on the edge: Alala

I'm still not sure that some of these names are actually ones can live with, but it would at least give you some ideas.
