Girl names...
My husband and I are expecting our first born in early November, and we don't know the gender. We have decided on a boy name, or more like re-decided since it's what we have always planned on using but then considered not using since my cousin recently stole the first name. If our baby is a boy his name will be Tobias Christopher. However we are basically no where on girls. Sure we have a list, but it's got so many names it really doesn't put us anywhere, you know like it's not a top five or whatever.
Currently, this is my list. It's not really been discussed with my husband a whole lot although some of them have. But it's my list... we'll call it a top 40? Some are meant to be middle names but I really don't know that anyone cares that much. Feel free to offer feed back or combinations you like/dislike. Or feel free to skip all together I really don't care, just wanted to share. :-p

Just wanted to add some info. I tend to like names that sound as if you picked them off a shelf and had to blow a thin layer of dust off. With female names I really love more old world sounding hyper feminine without sounding flowery or too over the top. I know some of these names really don't fit in that genre, and others are uber popular right now (which sucks, cuz I am kinda anal about my kind not being one of 5 in their class) but in general that's what I like.

Woohoo! I love this game!
Date: 2006-09-02 03:57 am (UTC)Andrea - nms aa, and kind of boring
Alexis - I used to love it, but now not so much. I kind of like the meaning (to defend)
Amelia - very sweet. Will grow well.
Abigail - Also sweet. I love Abby.
Aurora - NMS aa, but beautiful in its own right for sure.
Arabella - I hear this a lot on this comm. It makes ME think of a witch in a fairy tale.
Brianna - lovely and sweet. I like Brianna Rose.
Beatrix - cute. I don't know how well it will grow. If you have a boy in the future, Tobias sounds GREAT with this name. And Bea is the cutest nn ever!
Blythe - bleh. The only one I know is BLythe Danner, Gweneth's mom.
Chloe - too trendy.
Clara - Love it. I alsways think of the nutcracker.
Clarissa - I like it, but I think of CLarissa Knows it All. lol
Dulcy - interesting! It means sweet, right?
Ella - like it...kind of trendy.
Eva - too trendy. And my sister-in-law's mom, whom I don't like. Hehe. I prefer Ava, which I know is more trendy...
Emma - #2 in 2005. Need I say more?
Emeline - LOOOOOVE IT!!!!! Would you say Emma-leen or Emma-LINE? I loove leen. It's so perfect. Emeline Rose, Emeline Joy, Emeline Faith
Faith - Faith Emeline even! Nice.
Felicity - nms, but cool.
Genevive - meh. Not into the French.
Gwendolyn - As someone who was almost a Gwenovere, I much prefer this. Gwen is super cute.
Gabriella - LOVE IT
Isabella - #6...need I say more?
Ivy - nms, but growing in popularity
Isobel - I prefer Isabel, and it's on my list. :D
Inara - I LOVE this. What does it mean?
Jaqueline - Classy-O. Can't go wrong.
Lorelai - nice.
Lindy - I liked this, but then Lindy was the name of one of the soldiers at Aby Graib.
Libby - cute, better as a NN for ELizabeth or
Mia - nice. I say Mee-uh
Madeline - classic, gaining popularity.
Mackenzie - It's a guilty pleasure of mine, so I can't blame you. A lot of people think it's trendy and unoriginal, but the highest it's been in SSA list is 50. That's not high at all.
Naomi - sweet. i love the Bible character.
Paige - nice.
Rory - meh. I have a boy cousin with this name.
Ruth - as a MN, it's fine.
Tori - ew.
Victoria - Like it.
Willow - nms but pretty.
Zoe - cute...maybe too cute.
Good luck! I love Tobias Christopher, btw.

Date: 2006-09-02 04:22 am (UTC)For some reason Arabella brings the same thought to my mind, was there a character with this name somewhere that I just can't place?
I agree that Beatrice and Tobias sound good together and Bea is an awesome NN. :-)
Emeline would be Emma-line.
Gwendolyn is my compromise, I would love Gwenovere but thats too much even for my tastes. :-D
Inara is arabic and means Ray of Light, however I got it from a T.V. show Firefly and the character is actually, basically a call girl, but I love the name I think it's gorgeous!
I say Mia Mee-uh as well
Naomi is one of my favorite biblical names and characters, as is Ruth, I would probably pair them together as naomi Ruth since I only plan on Ruth being a MN.
Thanks!

LOVE:
Amelia (my daughter), Abigail (though it's popular, I LOVE it), Aurora, Beatrix, Blythe, Chloe, Dulcy, Emeline, Faith, Felicity, Genevive, Gwendolyn, Ivy, Libby (as a NN), Mia, Madeline (even though it's popular), Naomi, Paige, Rory (maybe as a nn? somehow this doesn't match your criteria to me, but I really, really like it.), Ruth, Tori (as a NN), Victoria, Zoe
Likable but excluded (in my mind) due to extreme popularity/trendiness:
Ella,Eva (pronounced Eh-va not eve-a),Emma, Gabriella, Isabella/Isobel, Mackenzie
And I have to add a special note about Willow: I like this name on paper. But you have to be the right kind of people (you, hubby & little Willow that is) to actually use this name IRL. I say this bc when my stepson was at camp there was a little girl with this name and I heard her Dad call her or ask her to do something or other and it just sounded weird. Part of it was how the name sounded coming from his mouth, and part of it was the name itself. Since then, the name's been kind of tainted for me.
