[identity profile] politicking.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
The other day at work a woman and her daughter came in to leave promotional material for their new business. The daughter looked to be in her 20s, Mom maybe in her 40s or 50s. They introduced themselves as "Cinnamon (mom) and Mahogany," which I kind of flinched a little. Then she handed me their business card... "Cynnamyn & Mahoganny." Ouch.

Crazy. I knew a Cinnamon!!! Luckily she named her daughter something relatively normal: Murphy.

I lol'd when I realized it got even worse with the spelling.

As much as I ADORE those two words...NEVER for a name. Just too close to hooker names tbh.

Wow. Those are horrible. I loved the television show, Mission Impossible and the character Cinnamon, so I love that name. But to butcher it by spelling it like that is a crime. Mahogany is a bad name and this spelling only makes it worse.

Well, no. But it is more "normal" to me than Mahogany or any variation of it!

lol I prefer Mahogany over Murphy. I think Murphy would be better on a boy. But everyone has their own style. That's why we have Cynnamyn. :/

I wonder if they are real or made up for showmanship. my aunt used to go to a cutesy stationery store called Adrianna's. then she brought me in and the owner said her name was actually Adrienne (same as mine) but she thought Adrianna sounded more showey for her business name.

Me too, and that's not a good thing, even though I liked the show. The character wasn't exactly a role model.
