Joel for a boy and Uela for a girl, yes or no?

Joel would have the one syllable pronunciation and Uela would have two syllables, pronounced Yul-la.

I like Joel, I wouldn't bestow Uela on a living person though... I'm with redfield, it sounds like it should be a body part.

Joel is pretty normal. I grew up with people with that name. Seems fine for a boy.

Uela is difficult to spell and say and yes, looks like a body part name. Is it a name in another language or culture? I would want to say "Ewww-la"

Eula as an alternative? It is pronounced the same way and is a name used in English speaking places, though I think it is pretty uncommon.

I had a student last year named Joel who was a pain in the ass, so I can't stand the name!! Uela tries to autocorrect to Eula are they similar in meaning? I don't like it, I want to say uvula when I see it, which is the little dangling "ball" at the back of your mouth.

Joel yes, Uela, no. Your child will thank you.

I like the sound ok, and I much prefer the suggested spelling Eula. I think you're more likely to get a correct pronunciation that way too. I mean, the whole thing is mostly vowels which is tricky. And Eulah would probably get pronounced correctly most of the time. What about Beaulah? I liked that one but my husband said it was the name of a mean old lady at his church when he was little so it was a no go.

I love the name Joel! Uela is okay, but I hate the spelling :-/ I knew a "Ula" pronounced the same way, but I think the most visually-pleasing spelling would be Yula. I don't hate it, don't love it, either. It makes me think of the Yule Ball in Harry Potter, haha.

I love Joel. Uela looks like it should be you-EE-la. I really dislike it.

I also thought you-ella. Yul-la would be spelled Ula or Yula

Its doomed to be pronounced wrong when the child is not by your side.

I read that as: "ooh-ay-la", tbh. I can honestly say that I don't like it, sorry. I like Joel, though!

I went to school with a Joel. He was a bit of a dick, but I have no problem with the name. I honestly read Uela as "you-ella". I think if you give that name to a girl, you're guaranteeing her a lifetime of correcting pronounciations and spellings. I am honestly not even that fond of the way you pronounce it... But if you spelled it Yulla then at least the girl wouldn't be correcting people quite as often.

I love Joel, but I don't like Uela at all. It sounds weird on my ears, and it also will be constantly mispronounced.
