[identity profile] laminy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was on some website when a link to a parenting website came up with an article called "7 Cute Uncommon Baby Names." And it was a pretty interesting sort of list.

1. Hopper (b)
2. Isadora
3. Gannon (b)
4. Abra (g)
5. Auden (b/g)
6. Doe (g)
7. Pike (b)

I, for one, don't think that Isadora fits in with the rest of those names at all, and Abra is just so out there that I can't even deal with it, besides the fact that it's not actually all that cute. Despite my better judgement, I have started to think that maybe Doe actually is kind of cute, if not slightly childish.

WDYT?

I love Isadora. The only other name on this list I would even consider using would be Abra. The rest are terrible. Hopper? Pike? Doe? Really? o__O

I don't care for most of those. I do like Abra(which I first heard in East of Eden).

I love Isadora...my cousins kid is named Isadora otherwise it'd be up there on baby names for me.

Gannon and Auden I kinda like. Meh. Gannon sounds sci-fi to me. :p and Auden sounds kinda nerdy. But they're alright.

The rest, not so much.

Isadora is one of my top girl names! I imagine it's only a matter of time before it becomes super popular, unfortunately.

1. Hopper (b) - Just nope. It sounds like a cute little bunny or a piece of machinery.
2. Isadora - Pretty, classic. Not sure why it's on this list. Even though I like it, I wouldn't use it because of a) Dora the Explore and B) the obsession with Isabelle/Isabel/Isabella right now. Too similar for my taste. As a Laurel who grew up surrounded by Lauras and Laurens, I was forever haivng my name confused or just bold called the wrong name. I would never do that to a child.
3. Gannon (b) - Personally not my style but not a bad over all name. Does make me thing of 16 and Pregnant though...
4. Abra (g) - Sorry no. Too close to Abby for one... also it's a Pokemon and an obnoxious one at that. I hated Abras. They were never good until you leveled them up. I shouldn't want to battle my child against other children until they gained experience points.
5. Auden (b/g) - I like this because of W.H.Auden and the Sarah Dessen book who's main character is a girl name after Auden.
6. Doe (g) - I prefer Fawn and even that I'm not a big fan of. Makes me think of dead bodies.
7. Pike (b) - to quote the original Buffy movie, "Pike? That's not a name, that's a fish."

1) Frog legs or Dennis Hopper, neither of which I'd want to associate with a newborn or little kid.
2) This is totally legit.
3) This is way too much like the villain in Legend of Zelda.
4) This is ok for some people I guess.
5) Same with this.
6) I'm not into it, but some people might be.
7) A pike is a fish.

Yuuup. I thought it was Sean Penn, I was right.

But ehhhhh, not a fan overall of it as a name.

Isadora is a neat name... so is Auden, now that I've read/said it. Not sure if I'd use it on a boy or girl.

I knew a girl growing up who's name was Abra. I'm pretty sure it was short for Abracadabra.

One of my professors is named Hopper. It's his last name, but everyone just calls him Hopper even though we call all of our other professors by their first name. When he refers to himself in the third person, he calls himself Hopper.

Gannon is the name of the major villain from the Legend of Zelda franchise, so if I ever met a person named Gannon - let alone a small child - I wouldn't be able to stop laughing.

Aside from Isadora, they don't even sound like names.

Open? I think the root of "abra" is "I create."
