So, just curious what you would do if you were me. Right now I have two little boys (who are my world, obvs), they are Colton Scott and Joshua Daly (called J.D.). If you were to have a third child what would you choose to go along with these two other names? Boy's name and girl's name?

Not planning on having another baby for another 18 months or so (or trying whatever), and maybe not even then, but it's fun to think about. Plus, we would have no idea bout boys' names anymore, but I have liked Kahlan for a girl forever but no idea about the middle name at that point even though.

I looked up Kahlan thinking it may be a name from another country, I've never heard of it. But it looks to be a made up name; no origin, no meaning and i am reading it like a creative spelling of Kaylynn, which I can't stand. If I am wrong I would like to know where it came from. Your boys have beautiful names and I don't see Kahlan flowing with them anyway.

I want to pronounce Kahlan in a way that sounds like Colin but more of an "ann" sound at the end. I don't see how you'd pronounce it while following the English language like Kae/Kay-lynn/linn. And honestly, I hate the spelling and it doesn't go with your boy's names in the least bit (although if spelled normally it wouldn't be so bad).

In any case just so you know the reason I pronounce it like Kay-lyn is its from Legend of the Seeker. It's a tv show based on the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind.

I'm not one for "unique" spellings of names. I always joke and say "if you can't find a pencil with the spelling on it, don't do it". If that makes sense. Of, if you have to, use it as a middle name. People will constantly screw up how it's said.

I love Kahlan Fwiw. I love the spelling and the character. I'm not certain it meshes well with Colton and JD but does it have to? Don't put too much weight on the opinions of people you never met.

Never heard of or seen the book/show, so unless it becomes mainstream you can pretty much guarantee that most people will have no idea how to pronounce or spell it the way you want it.

I really don't think it's that big of a deal to correct people's pronunciation, when it comes down to it. And if you don't know about that show, it's because it got cancelled after two seasons. Which is too bad because lots of people loved it. I wasn't asking for opinions about Kahlan though.

Thanks. No, it doesn't really have to go along with Jd or Colton's names. I was just looking for other good options since I've been through the baby name books and websites a few times now and a fresh look is always helpful. I really shouldn't have put Kahlan in the post at all as I wasn't looking for criticism about it.

I still love it, personally, no matter what people say and if people may or may not mispronounce it.

Kahlan should be pronounced like Colin. You can't get Kay out of Kah, but I've seen worse. If you love the name, go for it. Maybe you could spell it Kaylin. It would save her a life time of being called Colin.

As I have said before, I wasn't looking for critique of Kahlan or advice as to how to pronounce it. It's from a tv/ book and the author has said specifically that it's pronounced Kay lun/ kaylynn. I realize that phonetically/ how it should be pronounced is Colin.

I've only read the first book, but I can see why if you are a fan of the books (and read them first) why one wouldn't like the show. I liked the show ok. Second season was a little questionable, hence the cancellation, I suppose. :)

Kahlan is a badass namesake! So just for the idea of telling your daughter who she is named after when she grows up, I like it :)

Oh man, you have to read the rest of the series!! Some of the books are not as great as others, but the last few make it allll worth it!

I really think Goodkind should have sold the rights to Disney or Warner Bros because they would have done an amazing job! It would have been the next Harry Potter, I think!

Plus I HATED the casting for the show. Richard and Kahlan were all wrong based on the way they're portrayed in the books, in my opinion. But oh well!
