Middle Name Help
Aug. 27th, 2006 11:22 amSo as a continuation of my previous post I now need to find middle names for my top 3 girls name choices (I've decided to axe Kezia). The catch is they need to be Hebrew names, either modern Hebrew or Biblical ("old testament") names.
The names are Leah (Lay-ah-I know most people are against this but just keep the pronunciation in mind when you pick middle names), Sadie and Naomi.
So far the only combo I can think of is Leah Hannah but I don't know if I like all the ah sounds in it. Oh and Naomi Haddassah I think is kind of cool.

Naomi Ruth or Naomi Rebecca
I'm on the fence about Leah as a name, and Sadie was my dogs name.. so I can't exactly give a thumbs up on that one.. lol

Date: 2006-08-27 11:16 pm (UTC)I also wanted to say that I don't know where you are in the world, but right now the accepted pronunciation in Israel for the name Leah is Lee-ah (NOT saying this is how you should be pronouncing this, and if your bf grew up in a Jewish household he'd pronounce it Lay-ah and that's just great), I just thought I'd note it since I think it's pretty--the original biblical name is spelled לאה and means weary, and when it's spelled ליה and pronounced "Lee-Ah" means "God is Mine" (Li- to me, and the letter hey stands for God in lots of Hebrew names as I'm sure you know). I'm guessing you probably knew some of this already but I just thought I'd note it. :-)
Okay, enough babbling then. I'm putting down meanings as well, sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know.
Thalia (morning dew, when spelled תהליה could mean 'praise to god')
Michaela
Mika (Mika would commonly be used as a nickname for either Michaela or Michal, but can also be just Mika on its own; this is one of my favourite Hebrew names! :-D)
Eliana (My God has Answered)
Gili (pronounced Gee-Lee with a hard G like in the word 'gun'; means My Joy (Gil- joy, Li- to me)
Lily
Ayala (I think Leah Ayala sounds beautiful. Ayala means Gazelle)
Ayelet (also means Gazelle. Ayelet HaShahar is a phrase meaning 'dawn' and there's also a particularly stunning poem that inspired a lot of people to name their daughters this)
Dafna (DAF-nah, the emphasis would be on the first syllable in the classic Hebrew pronunciation)
Shiri
Shir
Shira (according to how you'd pronounce it, the meaning would change; SHEE-rah is 'song', and shee-RAH is 'poetry'. Shir is 'song', and Shiri is either 'My song' or 'sing')
Noa (means 'Movement'. My all time favourite name, too! :-D)
Aya (means 'Where')
Nava (Nah-vuh. means 'Fair')
Elana/Ilana ('Tree')
Dana (pronounced Dah-nah, means 'judge'--it's obviously the female form of Dan and Daniel so it comes from 'god has judged')
Adi/Adee (ah-dee, means 'Jewel')
Goni (the pronunciation is tricky, it's a Hebrew sound, but I thought I'd mention it for the pretty meaning, which is 'shades of colour'. Goni is pronounced like a combination between a -gah- and -go- sound, and then -nee-)
Sivan - (see-vahn, almost see-vhun; after the Hebrew month)
I hope that helped a bit. :)
Hope that helps some.
