What are people's thoughts on Ellen?

I don't think it's particularly pretty. it's also kinda.. my mom's generation. it needs another generation before you can pull the "old is new again".

Not a fan. I prefer Ella or Eleanor.

I don't have a problem with it. It's not on my list but I think it's a perfectly good name. I might choose Eleanor though, and use Ellen as a nick name.

My first thought was Ellen DeGeneres. Then I thought of a girl by the name that I didn't like in high school. Associations aside, I've never really cared for the name anyway. I think Helen is kind of pretty though, which is kind of odd because they sound so close. I also quite like Helena, but that is neither here nor there, I suppose.

First I thought of Ellen DeGeneris and then I thought of the name Helen. I have a friend with a daughter named Helen.

So, while I think it is a name that is just fine, I personally would prefer to go for a name that didn't have such strong other associations (unless for some reason I was wanting those associations to be thought of with the name).

I like it, but it's a bit boring to me. At least it's a real name. ;)

I know a couple of Ellens who are relatively young (early twenties), so I do kind of see it as being an older name becoming more popular. But right now, I think that most people will just automatically think Ellen Degeneres. I know I did, when I saw this post.

I like it. It's an older name, but not yet old enough to fit into the "everything old is new again" category (like Alice, Penelope, etc.). I do think those midcentury names will make a comeback though (like Linda, Donna, etc.)

I quite like it. She would stand out as more traditional in a class full of little Elles and Ellas. Given how popular soft sounds like L and N are in girls names today, it's surprising Ellen hasn't made more of a comeback.

I like it, probably because it's my sister's middle name (she's Josephine Ellen). I still prefer Ella and/or Eleanor(a).

My aunt is Ellen and she's constantly called Helen. She goes by Ellie now, which I find weird as it's a little girl's name and she's 41!
