Is it horrible naming kids after Disney characters?

As long as it's not Beast or Flounder or anything like that, I think it's fine...

I think it would depend on the character name.

This. I would totally name my daughter Belle, but would definitely not name her Cinderella.

It depends on which names they are.

Usable: Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Sebastian, etc.

Unusable: Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White, Scuttle, etc.

Definitely depends on the name. Anything definitively a "Disney character name" I wouldn't use.

But plenty of people, for instance, don't even remember that Sleeping Beauty's name was Aurora, which is a beautiful name w/plenty of nickname possibilities.

I know Stephanie McMahon and Triple H named their daughter Aurora and said someone sent them a Sleeping Beauty doll or something and it was only then they realized that was her name, too- that's not why they used the name.

Also I kind of hate myself for knowing the above, ha.

Like others have said, in some cases it's fine, and others it's definitely not.

(I babysit a Kiara who was named after the lion, but I suppose it's better than Simba?)

I know a little boy named Simba, but his parents are from Zimbabwe, so I don't think he was actually named after Simba from the Lion King!

I don't think so. My daughter who is due any day now is named after Belle (or at least Belle was part of the inspiration for the name anyways). My husbands middle name is "Simbad" and so some of his friends would sometimes call him Simba (even though we were born a couple years before the movie came out).
Some of the names are very usable and are way better than a lot of the "unique" names I'm seeing these days. Guess it all depends on what character you're going for.

It depends on the Disney character. Bella -great. Goofy - not.

How strong and likely is the connection? If you named one Belle and another Alana, nobody would notice. Belle and Ariel, then people are going to catch on.

My favourite Disney name is Ariel. I like it a lot, but it's relatively unheard of in the UK. It might be because there's a very popular washing detergent with that name. I've asked people what they would think if I had a daughter called Ariel and the vast majority of responses were more-or-less, "Why would you name a child after washing powder?"

So, as much as I like Ariel, I don't think I could use it! Personally, I've always associated it with The Little Mermaid, though. But I'm in the minority.

Belle is nice, but it's not on my favourite list. Aurora I just can't get to grips with. I want to like it, because I LOVE the northern lights and I think the meaning behind the name is lovely! But I don't like the way it sounds. In fact, it's quite a mouthful!

A name I adore, though, is Nala. I think it's cute and also a very beautiful name. I would use it for a second daughter. And I love cats, including big cats, and so I think it would be very fitting for me to have a daughter with this name.

Depends on the character's name. Tiana, Belle, Jasmine, Ariel, etc. are fine. Pocahontas, Aladdin, Cinderella, etc. not so cool

This is what I was going to say. If you do two Disney princesses (Ariel and Jasmine, Belle and Aurora) or two characters from the same movie (Ariel and Sebastian), it might be really obvious. But if you choose characters from different movies (Jasmine, Sebastian, and Flynn), most people might not notice.

Sorry, that's a "one bearer only" name (like Oprah).

Depends, I once had a male student named Ariel, his sister was allowed to name him!
I also had a little boy who's sister was named Nala for the lion king.

tbh, I think most people only really know the Princesses and not really the Princes, so most people probably wouldn't make the connection anyway.

I think Nala is a really pretty name, though.

This. Although I must admit if you used Jasmine, Sebastian and Flynn I would catch on right away but Flynn and Sebastian? It would need to be pointed out to me.

Oh my effing Gods... We have Ariel here and I literally JUST made the connection (probably because I say one in English and the other in Spanish...). You have officially ruined this name for me T.T

As a kid I wanted a daughter named Aurora, but because of Felix the Cat. I was half raised by my grandma, heh.

This too. I was going to use the example of Ursula and Ariel. :D

Aurora was called by Briar Rose while she lived with the fairies in the woods, and I think that is totally usable. Aurora is obviously still used as is Belle. Jasmine is popular, not always associated with the princess, but I agree Snow White is a bit out there.

I once met a lady named Bambi. I think having that name embarrassed her a bit.

It's a pretty awesome name if it's a cultural thing, just not if it's after the movie. c;

My name is Mulan lol. Obv. not for the movie though.
I agree that more than one kid with a 'Disney' name might be too obvious, but reallyit depends on the name. I wouldn't name two of my kids after the princesses though, because it's too immediately recognizable (like Ariel and Jasmine-on their own I don't even think of Disney, but together the association is strong)

Definitely depends on the character, the name, and whether it's first versus middle. Too many variables!
