Do you any of you have names that you would never use simply because of a bad association with them?
For me they are Mark, Derek, Shawn, Lexi, Karleigh, Collin and Christopher.
On the other hand, I have a bunch of names that I associate with good memories/people like Brenda, Hans, Harrison, Julie.
Hopefully that made sense, just thought it would be an interesting discussion!

too many to name- I'm a teacher- anytime I have a rude, obnoxious child- I make note ..currenly I have two sociopaths named Thomas- there was a horrible girl I went to high school with named Lana- if not for her- I would've loved the name and maybe used it for a future child.../
for the record, any Angel I've ever had is EXACTLY the opposite

Mary. I have terrible associations with Mary. Also Jase and Dylan.

I would never use a name that already had strong associations--even positive associations--with someone else for me, so I really don't have anything to say for the positive associations category.

The names of ex-boyfriends, and a huge list of names students have ruined (as every teacher does).

Most notably, Emily (I've taught 4, and every single one has been diagnosed bipolar or schizophrenic, and I loved the name), Bradley (all have been on the spectrum), Karin (m, Kar-een), Kaylee, Nina (bossy), Jennifer (attitude), and Nathan (they are usually whiney).

All the Jacobs and Matthews I have taught have been very sweet, and Jacobs and Benjamins tend to be at the class. Julias are also very sweet and they, along with Sarahs have also been top of the class in my experience. Some of my favorite students have been named Gustavo, Arturo, Max, Vania, and Ava (who went by Yuli).

I teach in an Elementary School - there's an awful kid named everything!

Seriously though: bad connotations that come to mind: Nicole, Matthew, Samuel, Isobel (mainly.)

Family names with good connotations are James and Selena- both family names used for generations.

I could never use Sarah, Jasmine, Kayleigh, Alicia, Eric, Ethan, Ryan. Peter, or Adlai.

Girls: Nicole, Crystal/Krystal, Kristie, Stephanie, Hannah, Alexis (and all the nicknames Lexi/Lexie/Lexy).

Boys: Taylor, Tyler, Kyle.

Luckily none of the names are my style anyway, but I never ever meet people with these names that I like.

I've spent 10+ years compiling the list of Names We Shan't Use For Various Reasons. It's far too long to even give you an idea, since the reasons for them are many (too much use in the family, generally don't like, knew a crappy person, etc). The boy list is much longer.

Bad associations: Chassidy, Jason, formerly Christopher, and now Jeff

Good associations: Helen, Felicity, Annmarie, Natalie, Ian, Paul, Nabeel, Dave, Damien

I used to dislike Christopher because I knew at least three Chrises who were jerks, but then I started fangirling for a bunch of famous Christophers/Chrises who seem like fairly decent guys Christopher Eccleston, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Chris Pine, and Chris Carpenter, so I love it again. Oddly enough, one of the "bad Chrises" was this short, annoying, sneaky, lizard-faced kid who had a handsome, talented, outgoing older brother named Damien---that's where I first heard the name, not in The Omen, which is why I have good associations with Damien/Damian where the rest of the world doesn't.

I work with kids, so there's tons of names that little demon children have ruined (Conner). But then there's also lots of interesting names I've come across from kids that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise (Garrett)

In school the bitchy girls were always named Heather, Nicole and Britney, so I would never dream of using those. The mean/stupid guys were always Andrew and Tyler.

While teaching, my worst students were always Chloe and Vincent, and the best/sweetest students were often Hugo and Amandine.

Shane, Alex, Matthew, Jonathan, Alyssa, and Sarah. (Sarah is my moms name....but I think she's the only Sarah in my life that I don't hate/have a bad association with)

My mom is a teacher, she told me not to name any future children Finn/Finnegan, because she has a few of them and they are apparently all houligans, lol.

Blair for a girl. I knew a girl in middle school who I absolutely despised named this. She was the only person I actually drew on in the yearbook.

My mom won't let me use the name Josephine because of a social worker we had for our family who didn't help us at all. I still love the name though.

I've posted about this before, but my husbands crazy ex-girlfriend is named Kendall and so even though I think it's pretty, it's forever tainted.

There are a few other names that have been tainted for me, but I didn't like them to begin with so it's okay, like Kali and Casey.

I would never use any boy names beginning with Br-, especially Brady and Bryce. All the Brandons and Brendans I know are dark-haired, awkward, and strange, and all the Bryces and Bradys I know are blond, kind of doughy, very privileged and ignorant, and huge dude-bros. I do not believe these trends to be coincidences, tbh.
