Rising Names?

And I knew I had to share it with Baby Names :-)
The girl names seem alright, some of the boy names make me cringe. Like Brantley and Zeiden. Does this live up to your experiences with the new babies in your life?

I told you about the most popular baby names for boys and girls (plus similar alternatives for anyone looking to stay away from the Top 20 list) earlier this week. And now? Now it’s time to look at the popular baby names of the future. By analyzing the Social Security Administration’s list of popular baby names (and with a little pop-culture know-how), I compiled a list of the fastest-growing names. Names that just might indicate some future chart-topper trends.
So even if you think you’re picking a unique baby name (like Mila or Brantley), you might have yourself a Sophia or Jacob instead. Take a look at my picks for baby names on the rise:
Girl names sure to sky-rocket:
- Amelia
- Charlotte/Charley (sure to be a Top 10 soon)
- Scarlett
- Harper (the fastest-rising girl name in the Top 100)
- Penelope (especially now that a certain Kardashian, possibly responsible for the “Mason” boom, named her daughter Penelope. Sigh.)
- Adele
- Estelle/Stella
- Briella/Brielle (the fastest-rising girl name of 2011)
- Mila (another name that skyrocketed last year — presumably because of a Ms. Kunis)
- Aubrey/Aubree
- Molly
- Violet
- Lucy
More girl names on the rise:
- Isla and other short -ah ending names: Aria, Luna, Cora, Eva, Nora, and Clara (in the tradition of Emma, Olivia, and Ava).
- Elsie, Elise, Eliza and Eloise (the new El- names?)
- Ivy
- June
- Juniper
- Olive
- Names ending in -lyn or -lynn (Evelyn, Raelynn, Emmalynn, Addilynn, etc.). This is a huge trend.
- Names ending in -anna (Audrianna, Lilliana, Aviana, etc.)
- Alice
- Bryn
- Harlow
- Kinsley/Kinley/Kensley
- Vera
- Ember and other “Em-” names like Emery and Emerson
- Milania
- Bristol
- Kennedy
Boy names sure to sky-rocket:
- Brantley (the fastest-rising boy name in 2011)
- Jackson and all of its alternative spellings: Jaxon, Jaxen, Jaxon
- Declan (the next Aiden?)
- Grayson/Greyson
- Elijah (already ranks in the Top 20, but it’s steadily climbing to the top along with Liam)
- Levi
- Henry
- Oliver
- Isaiah
- Asher
- Silas/Sylas
- Milo
- Wyatt
More boy names on the rise:
- Iker (the fastest-rising boy name of 2011)
- Raylan/Rylen
- Maximiliano
- More “X” names: Felix, Axel, Jax, Rex, Dexter, Dax, and Lennox.
- Harvey (It’s still in the 800s here in the States, but it just entered the U.S. Top 1,000 last year after the name ranked in England’s Top 50. The next name import?)
- Flynn
- Jasper
- Atticus
- Abram
- Abel
- Cato and other “-O” ending names: Arlo, Hugo, Theo, and Nico
- Kayson
- Archer
- Kingston
- Surnames (in addition to Jackson): Hayes, Parker, Lennox, Sullivan, and Edison.
- Zeiden

I wanna know what the heck an Iker is and why it's the fastest-rising boy name of 2011.

The only boy names that surprise me are Wyatt and Iker (I've never even heard of this?).
I'm really surprised not to see Eleanor (especially if Juniper is on the rise, because I think Juniper sounds more serious than Eleanor). I think it has "sky rocketing" potential. And yeah, some of these are just ugly. Luckily, NONE of our choices are on here! Some of the runners up were, like Clara and Henry. I knew they would become super popular, so I avoided them.

Date: 2012-10-26 07:09 pm (UTC)Edit: I'm surprised Sebastian isn't on here. My SIL told me she almost changed her oldest's name at the last moment because she found out there were five other boys named Sebastian in the same hospital on the same day.

Names formerly on my list:
Stella
Lucy
Eloise
Oliver
Isaiah
Dexter
Jasper
I also have Elizabeth on my list with the intended nickname of Eliza and Theodore with Theo as a possible nickname.
Some of these I'm more attached to than others. Some of these I'm really hoping don't skyrocket.

Date: 2012-10-26 11:00 pm (UTC)Also, when they said Declan was the new Aiden, it made me wonder if people are going to alter it (a la Jaiden, Braden, Caiden, etc). Will we start seeig Brecklan, Leclan, Zeclan? LOL.

Date: 2012-10-26 11:36 pm (UTC)Eleanor & El-names have always been favorites too, but three girls and I still haven't talked my hubby into it. I've also always liked Stella, Scarlett, and Audrey (not 'b'), but they've become so common that I probably wouldn't pick them anymore. I also considered Olive as a middle name, since it's a family name, but nixed that since it's getting trendy right now.
We'll be naming a son Isaiah if we ever have one though, regardless of popularity. We've been unable to find any other boy name we agree on.
I know waaaaaay too many Harpers, Ashers, Milas, and Milos. Several of these names are favorites that I've picked for characters though.

Date: 2012-10-27 06:34 am (UTC)I'm bummed that two of our favorite names, Henry and Olive, are on the list. But I'm not surprised---Olive seems to be so trendy lately and our neighbors just named their baby Olive. Henry has been on the radar in hipster neighborhoods for years. I love them both, but cringe at the idea of our Henry being Henry S. for the rest of his life.

Date: 2012-10-29 12:17 am (UTC)Eva (girl)
Charlie (boy)
Declan (boy)
Maya (girl)
Waylon (boy)
Marlon (boy)
Some on the list, some will probably join them there!
My husband loves the name "Wyatt" for a boy and of course I see it there on the list of skyrocketing boys' names :) I kind of get it now how most parents just sort of throw their hands up in the air and say, "Eff it, who cares!" I have a super common early 80s name and it doesn't really mean anything.
We also picked an uncommon middle name (as did my brother and his wife who just had Charlie two weeks ago) so we will get our uniqueness points there, ha!

Ember is a bit of a guilty pleasure name, but I love Em- names (& the nickname Emmy); Emmeline is the top contender for actual use. Could see Emery/Emerson as boy names, even if they're rising for girls.
Prefer Audrey to Aubrey/Aubree.
I think a lot of the other girl names mentioned are cute, even if they wouldn't necessarily make my list. Same can't be said for the boys; aside from Henry, Asher & Milo, I feel lukewarm at best regarding the rest of the list.
