[identity profile] oddofferings.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Friends just named their new daughter Magenta Margherita
Mother: Monika (Mexican)
Father: Mario (Italian)

A few other interesting kids names/sibsets:
Teo (TAY-oh) & Grady, both boys (parents Nicole and Srael (Suh-RELL)
Jasper & Domenica (parents Corina and Keith)
Emerson (girl), Leighton (Lele, girl), and Ethan (boy) (parents David and Tricia)

Friends Erin and John have revealed their name picks to be Violet (don't remember middle!) and Henry Todd.

Thoughts? :)

Margherita sounds like the drunken way of saying Margarita... Like after you've had oe too many and ask for another one.

Magenta was a guilty pleasure name of mine when I was like 16.

Monika is not right... Why do people try so hard to butcher nice names? Of course unless the woman has German, Scandinavian, Czech, Slovak, Polish, Slovene, Croatian, Lithuanian or Latvian background this was just a way to make the name seem 'cooler' because you know, k's are cool.

Teo is a common name here.

Grady is odd.

Jasper is kind of awesome except that it now reminds me of Twilight.

Domenica is a common name for hispanics and I think it's alright.

I kind of love that sib set but Leighton is my least favorite. Piper would have fit in nicely instead of Leighton.

I like all the names in that last family.

Initially I thought 'as in a pink cocktail' but actually as a combo it's really cool and I like both names seperatley anyway. Always been partial to Magenta because of some pop culture associations I grew up with, and seems 'diffrent but not too out there' given all the other Mag- names.

I also really like Teo, Jasper, Violet, and Henry.
Srael is interesting, not heard that before (short for Israel?)
Emerson is a family name for me, so feel like I should like it; but it seems quite masculine but most people would find it girly, just awkward then.

I really dislike Magenta. I also hate Emerson and Leighton, especially for girls.

I love Margherita, Teo, and Domenica. Violet is great, but seems to be really trendy right now.

I agree with everyone else. You've got the Rocky Horror associations, and then you've got the "gimme a pink daiquiri" connotations in the full name. Baby's named a bad bad thing.

Yay for Grady! Which is my kid's name. Obviously that's my favorite on this list. I also like Jasper, Ethan, Violet and Henry. The rest are OK. Not my style, but nothing I strongly object to.

I don't like Magenta but I do like Margarita. Hate the spelling they chose, and sorry but Magenta Margherita is awful and sounds like a porn star name.

Teo is surprisingly nice!

Love Leighton for a girl, but not Emerson.

It's SO funny because I was literally thinking yesterday of making a post about color names and what's okay and what's not--and Magenta came to mind! I also concluded that Violet is probably the only color name that works. And you mentioned them both in one post :D

Oh, and Magenta will forever remind me of the other dog from "Blue's Clues."

Jasper is one of my favourite names, but I'm not really feeling it with Domenica in that sib-set...
