[identity profile] earn-my-wings.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I had posted a couple of weeks ago about my friend who is expecting her first baby. They don't know the sex yet, but she is really hoping for and believing it's probably a girl. Anyway, she needs help with a middle name, so I came to you guys.

They're pretty sure that the first name will be Laila, pronounced Ly-luh. The spelling is nonnegotiable because of the meaning they saw once only applicable to this spelling. Also, even though it looks like it would be pronounced "Lay-luh," her husband is Brazilian and in Portuguese "Lai" would be "ly."

For the middle name, she really likes Breeze because she wants the mn to mean "wind," but she can't decide if it's too "out there" or not. Personally, I like it! I think it's really unique without being too strange to be a feasible name, and it flows well.

My question for you: what are some names you can think of that mean or are related to wind, breath, or air?

It's screening my first comment because of the link. But yeah, if you google "names that mean wind" it brings up plenty.

I believe the boy that was dating Bristol Palin just had a baby with his now gf and named her Breeze. So I'm thinking it'll be growing in popularity the more people see it.

The only wind name I can think of Zephyr, bit that's typically masculine. Oh, or maybe Windy? I think Laila Breeze is fun and quirky.

I like Wind or Windy better than Breeze. I agree that it's unique and not strange, but it's ugly.

What is your friend's heritage? Perhaps the feminized version of the word wind in the language of her ancestors she most identifies with?

Our niece's first name is Breeze. No one liked it much at first (MiL said she'd call her Bree for short but she only did for maybe a few days). Everyone got over it.
