What are the best pet names you've ever heard? What are some names you've given to pets?

I have a friend with a dachshund named Bonaparte, nn Boney.

The author of Dinosaur Comics named his dog Noam Chompsky.

"My" dog (originally mine, but stayed with my parents when I went to college, and I now live in another country in an apartment, so she'll probably never be truly mine again) is named Cinnabun, nickname Cinny. I've also had rats named Blossom and Vanilla.

My family tends to pull names from books - we've had dogs named Paul, Leto and Alia, and my own name is Jessica, so we all fit the same theme. :P My goldfish in college were Tonks and Kingsley.

My brother named our dog Fonc (Friend of No C***). Terrible, I know. Mum changed it to Fonk though and even though my brother named it to mean that, Fonk is by far the friendlist dog out. hahah, I don't think he'd hurt an ant.

We used to have a dog named Maverick as well.

My parents named their black furred animals after famous black people. I don't tell a lot of people the background of their names, but the black cat is named Kirby after Kirby Puckett and the black lab is named Maya after Maya Angelou. I was pushing for G.O.B. or Bob Loblaw for Kirby though, but Kirby suits him now.

I want my next cat to either be named Temperance or Booker, I'm also considering Meadow.

The dog my family got when I was 10 was originally named Samantha (okay, that was just my idea) but my mom nixed that pretty quickly. So my 5 year old sister and I couldn't think of anything else, and my mom was looking through the paper and came across a full-page ad for a sale on Pepsi at one of the local grocery stores. Kidding, she says, "Why don't we call her Pepsi?"

Silly Mommy, you have two daughters, aged 10 and 5. What do you think they're going to think about such a suggestion?

Pepsi was a great dog who lived to the age of 13. I still miss her.

My Mum had a german shepard named Tucson. As in Tucson, Arizona. Which is strange because we live in New Zealand.

My parents now have a border collie named Bourbon...

Also, I like Taye Diggs' dogs name, it's Sammy Davis Jr

When my mom was a kid, she had two dogs named Mutt and Jeff

The dogs my parents had when I was born were Tippy (doxiepoo) and Kilty (border collie); we got Poochie (terrapoo) when I was 5, but she came from the SPCA and was already named. I also had a cat named Blackie which was also the name of the cocker spaniel my parents got after Poochie died

Mom now has two cats named Wendy and Dixie (and Dixie's a boy...)

Hubby and I have a mini doxie named Maximus

Oh, and my brother- and sister-in-law have two dogs both named Gracie (they always joke that's how they knew they were meant for each other lol)

- When my Dad and stepmother went to adopt a dog, Dad wanted to rename the dog they eventually got "Finklesh**": "Finkle" in polite company. Thankfully, the area shelter names their animals and generally disapproves of new owners renaming them, because Gus suits the handsome Shepherd/Rottweiler mix they came home with a hundred times better.

- The dog Dad and my stepmother had before Gus was an elderly pure-bred Beagle, a retired hunting dog, that they adopted and named Rusty.

- There are three cats in my apartment atm: Meeka (brown tabby Maine Coon girl) and Smudge (orange tabby boy), both belonging to my roommate, and Luna (solid white girl), a stray we took in until we can find her a home.

- Roommate's parents have a Black Lab/Rottweiler mix named Dallas, and Roommate's grandmother's Black Lab is named Charlie.

- My mother and her brother and sisters had various dogs growing up, including Alaska, Blackie, and Sheba, and a cat named Patches.

- My aunt and uncle have a German Shorthaired Pointer named Jager (not after the liquor--my uncle hunts with the dog) and my other aunt and uncle have a Great Pyrenees mix with bright blue eyes, named (oh-so-creatively) Blue

- Last but not least, one of Roommate's university professors has a poodle named Mozart.

My family usually sticks to people-ish names for our pets. The more unusual ones included Tequila, Dakotah Blu and Diablo (who was apparently named after the street name for cocaine). Currently we've got two labs named Allegra and Max.

my first dog i named when i was like 4 was Bonnie (Bonnie Foo Foo or Bon Bon) like little bunny foo foo and a little after my aunt bonna who I thought she resembled.

I have 2 cats Zophia, or Zophie Bug, - name i saw in history class Xophia but I liked the Z and Misha, or Misha Moo, the siamese - i think my grandma helped me with that one.

Now we have 2 dogs Oshie - named after TJ Oshie the hockey player (my husband is a huge blues fan and all his pets have been named after hockey players) and Evie - who we got on Christmas Eve 2 years ago.

My mom had a dog Rocco who my step brother named after the guy in boon dock saints that shot the cat, which i thought was cute.

Also growing up I had a hamster named Houdini who got out of his cage all the time, and turtles Bill and Ted from bill and teds excellent adventure.

Next girl dog I get I want to name Shandy like summer shandy the beer/ lemonade drink.

I've never named a pet before. :^( My cat's name is Couscous, which I think is pretty awesome. If we got another cat, I'd want to name it Sassafras.

I've had many pets over the years, and have encountered hundreds of others' pets, but the best animal names I've ever seen were my friends' two cats: Catzilla and Geewhillikers.

Catzilla got his name because he was fond of climbing on my friend's dollhouses and destroying them.

My current kitty is named Tessie, after the Red Sox song (because I love my husband, not because I'm a fan myself). Our next kitty, if it's male, will be named Mario LeMew.

Our cats are Ethel and Julius Rosenberg. :) We usually call them Ethel and Julie, or collectively, The Rosenbergs. My parents have a dachshund names Brunhilde, nn Hildie (because dachshunds are German), and a cat named Chairman Meow, called The Chairman. Family tradition of naming cats after famous Communists.

If we ever got a dog, I really like the idea of Gatsby. So many great nickname possibilities. :)

Oh, and we have a friend with a cat named Ginsberg, and a dog named Virginia Woof (nicknamed Ginny!) and I love both of those as well!

My friend has a brown dachshund named Snickers. I think it's very clever and adorable.

My in-laws have a black lab/pit mix named Murphy. They got him on St. Patricks day so it suits him. He has many nns: Murph, Shmurf, Shmurfles, Shmeefee, ect. I love him :) They also have a silly looking black and brown cocker spaniel named Bear.

My brother's girlfriend has a fat gray cat named Cinderella. Comically perfect.

My beta fish was named Lumos! When he died, I tried my luck with goldfish. I named them Bellatrix, Lupin, and Zorander (from the Terry Goodkind novels).

I'm sad they died because I can't reuse those names now, haha.

Our cat's name is Dr. Mittens, and every time I say it people smile and comment on it. We usually just call him Mittens, or if he's bad....Mr. Poops.
