I have a personal love affair with the name Daciana. Every woman in my family with it are all calm, collected, dignified women. If I ever have kids the first girl I have will undoubtedly end up with it. My main problem seems to be watching people flail trying to pronounce it right (dah-cee-ah-na, people!) and my brother has suggested Cre8ive Sphellyng might remedy this.

I keep encountering people who pronounce it Dacey-ana, and that makes me sigh, but I'm wondering if the solution to these moments really is to edit long standing traditional family names so that others can get it. It seems like a cop out. But my annoyance at mispronunciation is strong.

I think any way you spell it, people will constantly butcher it and the person would have to constantly correct people. So, why would you add to it and butcher the spelling? I think it's not usable if you don't want them constantly explaining it...

I personally wanted to use a -ck sound for the -c. I think it's because at first glance I saw "Danica." And... Daciana pronounced "Dahck-ee-ah-na" sounds terrible, lol.

It's definitely not a common name, so of course people are going to trip over the pronunciation. I saw it as Danica when I read it quickly, and then Day see ah na.

I originally pronounced it the way you included in this post, but when I went to look up the meaning, Behind the Name provided a different pronunciation that equally makes sense, so it might not be a matter of people pronouncing it correctly, but just differently.

Either way, I would leave the spelling as is.

I've constantly had my name mispronounced my whole life, but i love my name and I think it's a small price to pay to have a more unique name. It only gets annoying when someone continues to mispronounce it after I've corrected them, haha.

I say use it and don't let it bother you if people say it wrong every now and again. It's not that serious of an issue, in my experience.

My husband and I both pronounced it like behind the name shows. Good to know that while I pronounce it wrong, it's not TOTALLY wrong.

Honestly... no matter what you name your child, someone is going to mispronounce it. One of my best friends is named Kylie, and she is constantly being called Kaylie or Kyle. Another friend is Leah (lee-uh) and people call her either Leia or Leigh. Heck, my name, Melissa, even gets messed up when people only read part of it, and I've been called Marissa, Melanie, and even Michelle.
