My friend is about to adopt a baby boy and needs some help coming up with a name.

For his first name she wants something that means;
brave, strong, survivor, hope, love ... He was found dumped in a trashcan. He was hypothermic, malnourished, jaundiced and had a number of congenital cardiac problems that he is still battling. She wants a name that reflects this.

For his middle name she wants a *Romanian name.

His name at the orphanage is Iorghu, but she doesn't like it.

Any suggestions you guys can offer would be great!

I would strongly recommend letting him keep his birth name, even if only as a middle name, whether she likes it or not. It's a part of his heritage and culture and depending on who named him it might be the only thing he has from his birth mother.

That said: Gabriel (strong man of God), Valentine (strong, vigorous, healthy), David (beloved), Felix (lucky, successful), Conrad (brave counsel), Jason (to heal), Peter (stone), Richard (brave power), Victor (victor), Vincent (to conquer). Most of the classic names have forms in the various Eastern European languages, too.

His birth mother did not name him. The orphanage staff did. This is one of the biggest reasons that she doesn't want to use it. The conditions there are not great and while she does want to honour his culture and heritage, she doesn't want to honour the orphanage.

I assume based on the name he is Romanian? The Eastern European cultures and languages have important differences with each other. I mean, would you name a French child Callum to honor his Western European heritage?

Doru is a good strong Romanian name- I know a few guys named it. (My roommate's from Romania, her dad and her boss here and both named Doru, haha)
