My understanding of the pronunciation is that it is Tear-nee, with the tear rhyming with ear, whereas tyranny is tear-uh-nee. It's a very subtle difference and they can end up sounding the same because sometimes the "uh" sound in tyranny gets dropped or shortened.
The name used to be a favorite of mine but for a boy as it is actually a masculine name. Now, I prefer Tiernan since it avoids the tyranny issue, but even that is way down the list.
Taylor is a guilty pleasure name for me because of its popularity. Not a fan of Taryn because it makes me really look twice to figure out what it says, and it's so unfeminine to me, although I do think some girls can make it work. Never heard of Tierney before, it's not my style at all, but I find myself quite liking it.
I can never decide about alliterating sibsets... I can't figure out whether I find them cute or ridiculously twee.
