[identity profile] earn-my-wings.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

A friend from high school recently had a baby girl: Ainsleigh.

What an eyesore! It doesn't even sound pretty, it sounds like I'm congested when I say it. Out of all the names in the world...

Also, my new favorite name that I (re)discovered today: Maeve. Could also be spelled Mave (I prefer the former, though). It makes me instantly think of the love interest of some adventure love story set "back in the day."

Whatcha think?

I've got a young cousin called Ainsley. Still an eyesore!

I completely agree with you about Maeve. Love it!

Ainsley/Ainsleigh doesn't sound appealing to my ears. I just hear the ayn sound, and think "anal"

I never know how to pronounce Maeve. MAYv?

I know one Ainsleigh, spelled exactly that way, and its a sweet litlte girl with Downs Syndrome, so I am having trouble hating the name because of association. I don't think AINS-lee sounds congested, though i admit the spelling is very um, fancy.

I don't mind Ainsley... spelled right. It's not a favorite or anything, though.

All I see is sleigh in Ainsleigh. I just think of Santa and his sleigh. And it makes me want to pronounce it like Anz-slay not Anz-lee.

I freaking love Maeve. I prefer Maeve. Mae is a cute nn for it.

I grew up with a girl down the street from me whose name was Ainsley--she's at least in her mid-20's now. Maybe because of that, I've adjusted to the name and it never bothered me that much. The spelling above, however, is obnoxious. Obnoxious.

I don't like Ainsleigh/Ainsley either.

I do love Maeve though.

I actually really love it when it's spelled Ainsley. It's very traditional and pretty.

My cousin-in-law has a baby named Maeve, one of my favorites :)

i think Mave might get confused for Mauve. So my vote is for Maeve.

I don't mind Ainsley, but I can't look at Ainsleigh without seeing sleigh. Like it should be pronounced Ain-slay.

Maeve is lovely! Ainsleigh however... I do not like. The spelling and the pronunciation just don't flow to me.

I've never liked Maeve, probably because I've never known anybody with that name and each time I see it in print my mind thinks, "Mauve? No, the other one." I just don't like how it feels on the tongue.

The spelling is obnoxious, but I don't mind Ainsley. To be honest though, I've come to hate Maeve. Maeve and Sakura have become way too common Mary Sue names in the RPG world (or at least the circles I'm familiar with), so I can't help but roll eyes whenever I see either of those two names. Sorry. :(

I know a really amazing woman named Ainsley, so I kind of dig the name. I wouldn't use it myself though.

I really like Ainsley/Ainsleigh, and it was in my top 10 for girls names. It's a traditional Celtic name, and I think it is beautiful... conversely, I find Mauve to be an old woman's name (and a hidous color, by the way), and think Maeve looks like a typo.

My tastes are so backward from what is trending right now....*sigh* it makes me feel like I am being contrary all the time.... :-(
